Can I expect this work shop to be held in southern Humboldt? Look forward to it!

Here is a little more information.

Tesla sells one of the most badly built vehicles ever produced. I believe that the Yugo was much better quality, and they were affordable!

There are thousands of VW TDI vehicles on the market that are a much better buy.

If you really want to drive electric, get a Nissan Leaf, or an Audi E-Tron, if you can afford it… Tesla’s are also quite expensive, they fall apart like an old MG or Triumph, and there is no service center nearby. A Honda Civic is a MUCH better buy!

Remember, range is greatly reduced in cold weather, and if you want to go to SF or LA, take your gas car…

No way. With all the oil and gas we have, no reason for these things to be around. They are not welcome in my garage. And how much do they cost the taxpayer in incentives? Plus, they pay no gas tax, which means they use all our infrastructure for free. I saw a T shirt that said death before Prius. Enough said.

The biggest hang up with electric vehicles in our area is that work trucks with needed range and reliability over rough, steep roads simply aren’t being made. Unfortunately people who only see the world in suburban, socialist terms are the ones touting electric cars.

Wow guest. You nailed it. The same people who will be living off of government cheese too. I’ll stick with my “GRODOZR”. Thanks. Look into the carbon footprint of a Toyota Prius, and you will be shocked!

Another area of agreement: electric cars have no torque and aren’t available in a manual transmission. Two words!

It’s a bummer that unless you already have a car payment, buying an electric car will not save you any money. I own two electric cars but they are diy conversions of Volkswagen rabbits.

It’s good to see several EV enthusiasts on here. ISTR that VW Rabbits became popular with EV enthusiasts for the simple reason that only minor modifications are required when replacing the original internal combustion engine with an electric motor. But used candidate vehicles are getting hard to find, especially post-“Cash-for-Clunkers”.

Personally, I’d be avid to read readers’ anecdotes about their experiences with off-road EV such as the Polaris ATV and/or electric dirt bikes.

Teslas are the safest car made on the road. They have a 325 mile range more than enough to get to the city. Tesla also has rapid chargers all along 101. There is one being installed in Laytonville right now. There is no service needed with an electric vehicle. Tesla service techs come right to your home if ever needed. The only thing you need to do is rotate the tires. Brakes last ten times longer than a conventional car because of the motor regen braking and charging the battery. Friends Nissan leaf has 70 thousand miles and still has the original brakes. All the car co’s are using Tesla patents that they gave them for free 10 years ago. The cost of a Tesla model 3 is 42 thousand out the door. That’s with a 325 mile 10-year warranty battery. The cost of the Audi E Tron starts at 75 thousand and has a much shorter range. There are more than 200 hundred thousand Teslas on the road.

They burn easily. Death before Prius. We have so much carbon fuel, why bother with all the problems of these electric things?

Tesla is unveiling a pickup truck this summer, all wheel drive load sensing power train. They announced last week it will cost under 49 thousand.

I’m waiting for Toyota to come out with an electric Tacoma.

You’ll still be waiting in ten years. Toyota has outright refused to give up on hybrids and fuel cell vehicles. They made a short lived battery electric RAV4 in the 90s and scrapped them when a lawsuit defeated the legal requirement.

Fifteen plus years driving electrics. First a VW conversion, now a Leaf. Both ran/run off solar panels on house. The reason for electric cars…the environment, the climate. Right now, they are not for the hills but that doesn’t mean that the majority of people living and driving in urban areas shouldn’t be driving electric vehicles.
