Roy Werner: ‘The only way to go is out doing what you love’
This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and your memories to [email protected].
The only way to go is out doing what you love! This is something our brother would have said. Roy Werner, 58 of Redway California passed away on March 30, 2019 doing one of the things he loved. He was out for a sunny springtime ride on his Harley when he suffered a massive heart attack. Along with riding his Harley (his chrome baby), he so enjoyed playing on the sea, fishing and crabbing especially at Shelter Cove. He also reveled in being a grandpa…Pops they called him! Amy and David brought him so much joy! He also thoroughly enjoyed using his green thumb on his roses and it showed!
Roy was born to Stefan and Arlene Werner in Oliver, British Columbia, Canada on May 30, 1960. They later immigrated to Fortuna, California where Roy grew up and went to school. He graduated Fortuna High School in 1979 and then attended architectural drafting school in Arizona. Roy later decided that construction was in his blood, as his father taught him from
years of working with him doing custom homes. Roy was the oldest of four children. He resided in Redway for the last 10+ years. He is preceded in death by his father Stefan and mother Arlene, Uncles Juri Werner from Germany, Peter Werner from Canada, the mother of his children Deborah (Debbie) J. Miller/Werner. He is survived by his children Jacob and wife Ashley Miller, Giovanna Werner, Kayla Werner, grandchildren Amy and David Miller, Aunts Lenka Werner from Germany and Elisabeth Werner from Canada , brothers Peter Werner, Georg and wife Toni Werner, sister Stefanie and Ray Ambrosini. and many nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his last love Karen Anne McCune who could put up with his full of life shenanigans!
There will be a gathering of friends and family on June 22 at the Fortuna Fire Hall in Fortuna, CA at 3pm to share stories and celebrate his life.
