That’s a great theory, except that bad weather seems to cause bad driving too.

Maybe it’s not the weather…

It should be against the law to walk and/or ride bicycles on the freeway.

I think it is. There used to be signs on the onramps that said no bicycles or motor driven cycles. Perhaps the Progressives lobbied against that. Enjoy your short ride…

It should be against the law to drive a vehicle with a combustion or compression engine on the freeway.

In California it is illegal to have slow or unmotorized vehicles on a freeway. But not on a highway. The sections of 101 classified as a Freeway are quite small and generally directly around cities. Which is part of the reason you see “Freeway Start” and “Freeway End” signs.

There are parts of 101 where pedestrians and cyclists are allowed due to a lack of alternative roads/frontage roads. This is the case in other states as well.

Wouldn't it be nice

There are several places on 101 where bicyclists have a narrow lane to travel. Most of the road from Confusion Hill South to Laytonville is narrow and dangerous. Monday as I was driving North a guy in a large pick-up tried to pass a semi on a double yellow and nearly took out three vehicles. Luckily the semi driver saw the idiot and slowed and pulled his rig as far right as possible allowing the first car to narrowly miss the truck. Fortunately I was behind the semi. The small vehicle had four people in it. That would have caused the deaths of possibly four innocent family members. Who and why are they in that big of a hurry??? And I could have been involved. I dislike driving in that area. I don’t know if the truck driver was local. All I know is it scared the hell out of me. It was so close I had to pull over just to calm down.
