Yurok Chairman Joseph L. James, flanked by member of the Tribal Council and representatives from Yurok Economic Development Corporation, cuts a ribbon to celebrate the installation of new electric vehicle chargers.

Klamath, California – [Friday], the Yurok Tribe and Yurok Economic Development Corporation celebrated the grand opening of four new electric vehicle charging stations, which will support emissions-free drivers traveling across the Pacific Northwest.

Local residents and visitors to the area now have access to two ChargePoint Express 200 and two CT4000 level 2 charging stations at Redwood Hotel Casino. The new infrastructure will play an important role in the development of the environmentally conscious fueling network of the future. These charging stations are a key component of a larger effort to connect the state of California with strategically placed fast charge solutions that empower drivers to enjoy a seamless driving experience during long distance trips.

“With the installment of the EV Chargers, we will attract clientele who care about the environment as much as we do,” said Joseph L. James, the Chairman of the Yurok Tribe.  “We understand the importance of providing charging to EV drivers traveling across California and are thrilled to be able to help connect these drivers with the power they need to get where they need to go. We look forward to providing our community with essential charging solutions, thanks to a program made possible by the California Energy Commission and ChargePoint.”

The Tribe is a strong supporter of cutting-edge technologies that can be employed to curtail pollution.

The charging stations are part of a growing network of chargers located at key destinations around California. The stations were installed as part of a California Energy Commission program designed to increase access to fast chargers along major corridors in the state, enabling long distance electric travel and making driving electric more accessible than ever. The program is funded primarily by the CEC and augmented by ChargePoint and various partners.

With these projects, the CEC is establishing a repeatable funding model for EV charging that will continue to bring EV charging to more areas, making driving electric an easy choice for drivers across California.

The Yurok Economic Development Corporation now operates two ChargePoint Express 200 and two CT4000 level 2 charging stations at Redwood Hotel Casino.
