Rio Dell Police Seek Information on Yesterday’s Butane Lab Explosion

Butane LabPress release from the City of Rio Dell:

On April 15, 2019, officers from the Rio Dell Police Department served a search warrant at a house in the 300 block of First Avenue. The property had been the site of multiple explosions and a small fire earlier in the day that was extinguished by the Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department. It is not known if anyone was injured in the blast.

The search found a sophisticated, closed loop system for making butane honey oil, a form of concentrated marijuana. Three five‐gallon tanks marked as containing butane were found in the same outbuilding as the closed loop system. In one of the residences, officers located 30 cases of butane canisters with each case holding 96 cans. Over 100 pounds of marijuana in various forms was seized as well as 165 marijuana plants ranging from three to eighteen inches in height. Other implements used in the manufacture of concentrated marijuana were also seized including extraction tubes and vacuum ovens. More than 200 empty butane canisters were also collected for proper disposal.

The Fire Department also assisted in removing the hazardous materials from the site. A person of interest has been identified and the investigation is continuing.

Please call the Rio Dell Police Department if you have information on this matter. (707) 764‐5642Butane Lab Butane cansButane Lab Butane Lab Butane Lab

They should be prosecuted for distributing a product that is known to cause cancer.

Sorry to pop your safety bubble, but 80% plus, of products sold in all stores are cancer causing silly! So pretty much all stores should be prosecuted? Sounds more like an FDA issue than a store issue!

Well the only information I have is it is a pretty clean small time op ran with a lack of understanding pressure, highly volatile gasses and flash points. The area obviously needs the ability to run smaller batches 6 or 12 pounds and you will put them outta business.

🕯Now you can’t tell me they can’t pull a fingerprint or get some kind of DNA off of something in all that crap.

Ya get all the evidence together ,and the DA office will say can’t be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,so why waste time ,and money on this case or no case.

HELLO BOS WAKE UP ANYBODY HOME??? Put a ban on large amounts of butane. Who needs cases and gallons? Damn a person can refill a lighter 10 times off a canister. Its pretty OBVIOUS when a person needs cases upon cases of butane that there is some shady ass shit going on. Or heck better yet put a large tax on them. Help pay for clean up. I have been seeing 5-6 contractor bags at a time of empty butane canisters dumped over banks in remote places. Not good!

BAN BULK BUTANE!
How many people have to blow up their rentals. How many kids have to have their house destroyed because their mom’s boyfriend was blowing oil in a lab in the back. How many tax dollars spent on medical treatment for the operator suffering burns in these explosions. Tax dollars spent on fire response and don’t forget the legal aspect!!! Honestly, I can only imagine that there’s millions of dollars spent every year in our counties oh heck the state on hash lab explosions. Hello it’s not rocket science folks. BAN BULK BUTANE!

RIO DELL PD – You seek information?!? REALLY?

Here’s a piece of relevant info for you –

OUR TOWN IS OVERRUN WITH ADDICTS, THIEVES, “TWEAK-ER-ORRISTS”, AND WORSE.

They will REALLY keep murderously stabbing elderly folks crossing the bridge, they will REALLY continue to illegally dump hazmats *by the bucketful* into the recycling bins, and… -=>*( FOR REAL )*<=- they will REALLY CONTINUE to F*ING BLOW UP sections of our town.

UNTIL YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Which, apparently, pretty much means NEVER.

Make the butane seller photo copy the ID of anyone buying their butane.

Several (many) years ago, I bought two 25 pound bags of sugar for a neighborhood jam project. Wildberger’s Grocery in Ukiah questioned me and filled out a gov’t form attesting that I wasn’t going to use the sugar to distill alcohol … How hard would it be for this “check” to be applied to quantities of butane?
If I could be flagged for the possibility of distilling Hooch, it seems some flag on these kinds of massive gas purchases could be raised. Where’s government over-sight when it’s needed? Just sayin’ Duh.

Am I the only one who feels the irony that a BHO extraction supply business is thriving in Humboldt? How does the county insure safety when this stuff walks out their door?
I do realize that to buy this equipment and use it safely, folks need to have a lot of capital and probably the places that blow up are cobbled together…but seriously, does the world need BHO extraction when there is the safer and cleaner option of CO2 extraction?

Well… you can’t buy mass volumes of CO2 in a neighborhood market.

Co2 is just as dangerous, moot point tho, can’t imagine what one of these idiots with a 3000psi co2 column might do

How do you get rid of all those empty cans can’t recycle them they still have explosive fumes in them even though they are empty ,and the city of reo hell is opening there own bho extraction lab factory . I guess its legal for the town to do exactly what the person or persons when there lab exploded just saying it’s like ok for a cop to talk on there phones all they want the double standard does not apply to law injokeness .

Like I mentioned earlier in the thread I go out in the County’s a lot for work. I’ve stopped a few times to take walk get out of the car you look over pretty much any cliff and you’re going to find tons of contractor bags stuffed full of empty butane canisters dumped down Ravines and canyons. And this is happening in Trinity, Humboldt and Mendocino Counties take a look around. They should at least develop a deposit for the cans of a dollar a can or something to help with the cleanup because it’s getting pretty bad out there. One site that I know of there’s layers upon layers of canisters dumped and I’ve turned it into the county and they’ve done nothing about clean up because it’s on private land quote un quote.

Then freaking don’t get me started on the WHIP IT CARTRIDGES!!! Saw probably about a thousand of them a couple days ago scattered across the parking lot at Lake Mendocino.
