Black Markets Matter (Official Music Video)

Local rappers–UnderRated, formerly with Potluck, and Garth Vader–teamed up to produce an album about the local “weed game” which will be released on…go ahead and guess…yep, 4/20.

UnderRated tells us, “I’ve lived Humboldt my entire life and have toured for over 10 years to every state spreading peace and love and good marijuana vibes…We have been working for over a year on this album and just finished it….It’s called UnderRated & Garth Vader “Black Markets Matter.”

UnderRated says, “The album is super banging and I’m excited for people to hear it because it is representing our community about legalization and how hard it has been for everyone especially in Humboldt.”

Well-known cannabis personality and local nursery owner Kevin Jodrey is also on the album.

The album release party will April 18 at the Bear River Casino with billboard charting artist Big Smo, One Eye from BSE, and Ishi Dube.

“We also have a strain that CSI_Humboldt collaborated with us that we are championing called “Hello”, UnderRated tells us.

He says this album “represents our community like no other hip hop music out there.” Check out the video above (it already has over 25,000 views)  and let us know what you think below.

Thank you, I love Underrateds music but it’s 2019. We are all enlightened enough to know that copying the slogan for an important civil rights movement to make a tacky name about wanting to not grow legally when most of us have been fighting for legalization (in part because of the in just number of African Americans jailed for longer times than white people for marijuana.) Definitely won’t be enjoying this album, Garth also sent me an uninvited dick pic on Facebook (I am a stranger to him) so I stopped listening to that gross sexual predator a while back.

Your ignorance is irritating! The sites being permitted far outpace the degradation caused by any but the very craziest of old Scott Bauer’s black hearted photo tour. that man is a bald faced liar and he knows it.

These rappers know what’s up. I wish they’d put their profits into an organization that will help the eel river people show the state and county how to actually save the fish.

Cuz the government’s execution sucks big time. Huffman said We won’t see the benefits of the market if Newsom doesn’t roll his tanks up on you.
I read, we won’t collect taxes if that doesn’t happen.

Taxes don’t save fish senator. Gotta keep the dirt out of the creek and the trees standing.
People are cutting trees hard right now because that’s what they have to make their abatement payments with.

And as far as the law… it was illegally illegal. It was never dangerous. Somebody wanted to make nylon rope instead of hemp rope. So the Fed dreamt up that scare propoganda that told people weed would make you crazy.

So when the cops break the law to make some thing illegal…. don’t expect much respect for that law.

LOL, stop reading when you said they shouldn’t pay taxes that they should be contributing. Since when do the same people that fight legalization also do good things and contribute their money in time back to society. Maybe like 1%? The other 99% of growers have to be forced to give back through taxes and permit fees.

Uggh. Be sure and only listen to the voices in your head.

First, if you look at asset forfieture from 86-2016, mj growers paid their share without appropriate due process.

Second, the tax load on legal farmers pushes people away from legalization

And third, from the perspective of actually wanting to protect fish and other species, its good that people avoid legalization because legal farms are generally being licensed to hurt the environment. And packed onto small sites!!

I saw a legal place today with 7 big green houses on less than an acre. 5 years ago that amount of cultivation would have been spread over a dozen parcels.

That translated into Shared income for the community to be paid sales and land taxes on several times over as it bounced around the town and county many times,

instead of the current scheme of a little for him and a little more for the out of town owner and 60% for the guvernmunt.

And who besides growersbuilt sohum. The county didnt even keep the veterans building properly maintained. It sure didnt build hospice or beginnings or the community park. Or the town square.

Seems like everyone forgot that since the beginning of marijuana prohibition, you’ve been buying your weed on the black market. But a better way to look at it is you’ve been buying products from your “neighbors”, most likely a team of regular Joes who took major risks to get you the stuff you love. Turning your backs on them and voting for laws that strip the common man of his ability to produce a crop that’s forever been his livelyhood is criminal and cowardly. It seems like you can’t see that the people in charge, (politicians, big pharma, mega corporations) are setting the rules so that you need millions of LEGIT dollars to even consider growing the plant legally, and of course all the money made before lawmakers waved their magic wands and changed the law is “DIRTY” and then people wanna scream, “PAY YOUR TAXES” after flooding the black market with dirty money for decades. Damn hypocrisy at its finest.

Well aren’t you self-absorbed, outside of this itty-bitty area in northern California other people have to put themselves at risk to buy their medicine. these legalization laws weren’t made just to support the spoiled growers that have lived too easily for so long, this is to protect the other 99.9% of the nation that should have access to marijuana without going to some sketchy neighborhood and having to go to some house even though they might be a female on their own or someone at risk that shouldn’t be going to some semi-strangers house to buy pot. They should be allowed to go into a legitimate location to buy their medicine, but you’re so self-absorbed you expect the entire planet to be jailed over a plant so that you can keep making extra money off of it. What the hell is wrong with your soul? why would you ever think legalization would be about you and not the millions of other people in this nation, you do realize that there are people outside of this bubble right? You do realize that they’re important as you right?

Yes dabqueen, and the consumers will drive the market. Consumers number in the millions. Growers mumber in the thousands.
You want a safe legal environment to buy cannabis. Its reasonable.
The farmers problem isnt that. Its the hell being legal has bwwn turned into. Needlessly.

The dynamics that lead it to need extra policing come from having made it illegal. Needlessly

And our government decided this was the year to hurry. Everything else in the world gets years of study and restudy. Why not this giant segment of the economy.

Because of stigma.

This attitude seen everywhere that growers are immoral because they broke the law is flawed. The thing they did, growing pot, shouldnt have ever been illegal.

Had it not been illegal, the industry would have grown as the regulated economy has developed. There wouldn’t be this huge cultural gap. That gap is it’s own hurdle for a lot of people.

Had it not been illegal, these yahoos who don’t know who their papa is, would not have blown these hills up. And decent family growers wouldn’t be lumped in the same group.

Meanwhile the double standard goes up the escalator where the county is legalizing these very douvhebag growers of the worst kind because of the bribes. Legal ones called fees and the old school brown bag ones too.

Its growing pains mixed with scullduggery in our government leaving people feeling victimized. Because their economy is tanking across the spectrum.

Our entire album is about weed politics… And we arent against legal farms or anyone in the legal market. We are just trying to explain that the people that built this industry haven’t been treated right with legalization at all.
This is not for the people it’s for the government and corporations. Most people are seeing the word “legal” and are thinking that’s what we all wanted. Yes of course we want it legal but we don’t want to be pushed out because we have to give up our life savings for a maybe. And a maybe in a capitalist society doesnt sound promising when everything is in limbo and you have little or no control on what law will pass next.
A lot of our fans are out of the area in illegal weed states and don’t understand what is happening. We are trying to show them, don’t be tricked by the word “legal” it most definitely is not that. It’s legal if you follow the impractical regulations and crazy taxes that are making most farms fail. People are being tricked and taken advantage of because everyone wants to be involved in the “new” cool cannabis industry. Meanwhile the people that have been in the game 20-50 years are also getting treated like sh*t! It’s a global takeover and a blatant money grab so it’s hard to not talk about what has ruined our community’s economy. I hope we get more help soon and some changes get made cause this isn’t working for anyone and it’s literally sad AF!

the people who built this county should have been saving up for legalization because they saw it coming for over a decade. not sure why you think that they should have their hand held whenever they didn’t start a savings account instead went on a vacation every winter, barely gave back to their community with time or money and works maybe half the year tops some of them not even working half the year, then sat around the other half of the year like spoiled princesses. They bogarted property so that people that literally want to just live in the woods can’t even find it, because people had to have you know two three four properties just for growing pot just for more money, not giving back a dime to the community. I have no pity for that type of people the wise ones the new legalization was coming, after decades of fighting for it and seeing it coming, those are the ones that are able to pay for their permits. I don’t have any pity for the spoiled ones that couldn’t even do that. The legalization fight wasn’t just for the people of this community it was actually for the nation to be able to have this plant that you can claim you know a special but yet you want others to not be able to have it legally, you want many people especially black people to be jailed extensively for this single plant. Legalization should be the only way, what percentage of people that are illegal do you think give back the exact same amount of money and or time as people who pay taxes and permits do? Not sure why everyone complains about how big these permit cost are, growers we’re very flamboyant with their money and that indicated they could afford bigger the cost to get started. It’s only the growers fault that the price went down, most of these people don’t understand basic business stuff like supply and demand. You can’t keep throwing in a new greenhouse and buy more properties every year creating more weed and expect the price to stay the same. lots of ignorant people in this community that don’t know the basics of business because they think things like legalization and professionalism are stupid. the marijuana industry is more than lucrative enough to have saved up for these permit processes, zero pity for people that won’t do it and can’t do it because they blew all their money buying stupid s*** and being spiled enough to not work during the winter.

Naw not really guy. What you don’t see outside your bubble of Northern California is that real money , big money is what this is about. The mom and pop don’t stand a chance. Most of Humboldt doesn’t stand a chance. I know of 2 grows being built out now as we speak… one is 140,000 sq foot indoor … it is backed by more than 100 million dollars privately. I know of another being built in the same area funded by a hedge fund group and it also has well over 100 million allocated to the project. These 2 examples are just a drop in the bucket of what’s going on in California. The people of California will realize legalization was a big mistake and Humboldt will be an example of how.

This album is dope!! Plain and simple!!!

Its about time someone starts talking about and caring the farmers. If it wasnt a blantent money grab from the govt the taxes wouldnt have went from 24% to 36% to 42% in the first year!!!!! Your purchase now has a charge UP TO 42% just in taxes!! Pay attention people that means your 50.00 club 8th will be 90.00+ out the door because of the taxes. Alot of clubs are eating the tax and only charging 25-30% but some arent and are charging the full tax. Its robbery and people voted this in. So even though weed is legal nothing is really free in america is it?

No, no. Still a $50 club 1/8, but the grower only gets $10, distro gets $10, club gets $10, taxman gets $20. Welcome to the real world kiddos, not so unlike everything else now. If your brain still functions, use it. There are so much easier ways to make a living. It’s not like you can’t still grow for enjoyment, but all this whining about the good old days makes this place sound pathetic and stuck in time, sad. Get back up Humboldt!!

The only problem with the black market In my opinion is what the Effects are on the environment. some Growers do not care And I have a huge problem with that!!! So when it comes down to it is not about the marijuana. it’s about the effects it has on the Environment and wildlife From the poisons left out to the trellis netting. Far too many of the growers are careless. So for that reason I’m glad we’re going into a process of legalization. Otherwise it’s extremely concerning because that’s what these counties are made up of!

Markets existed before government control of them did.

A market that’s not controlled by the government is only “black” or “underground” from the perspective of those who object to it.

Some analysts avoid the negative connotations of these terms by using “informal economy” to describe market activity that’s not recognized and controlled by the government. That’s important because repressing such markets depends on stigmatizing them.

Sounds like an unenlightened record from two spoiled white males that have lived the easy life for way too long. you were born and raised in Humboldt, how about you leave this little bubble for more than touring and see how the rest of the world lives before you start complaining, you little spoiled cis white male. maybe you’ll understand legalization better if you hadn’t lived here your entire life, it’s not about the hundred seventy-five thousand residents of Humboldt county it’s about the people Nationwide that deserve this f****** plant and don’t deserve to have to buy it illegally and risked going to jail just to get their medicine just because some spoiled pot grower doesn’t want to pay for permits. Life changes and this county was way too spoiled for way too long and that’s ending get over it. spoiled people are awful people and that’s why this county has gone downhill, it’s time for a dose of reality and hardship and actually having to work year-round hard. Times up spoiled white males.

Fuck you money grubbing lazy polititions. Your Karma bank is empty.

Politition = junkie.

Both will tell lies to get what they want.

Both will steal from, anyone they can get away with it.

Both must have trouble sleeping,

And it’s not surprising to males want to keep this industry Black market. The black market industry is rampant with sexism, women are often chosen just a trim regardless of being stronger and more experienced and harder workers than the males that are hired for the grow. The black market industry is also rampant with sexual assaults and sexual harassment. You’re not just protecting how much money you make, you’re also supporting the higher rates of murder, assault, not paying employees and sexist practices that can’t be regulated, protected against, or held accountable for in a black market. it’s so sad that you think this is good for your county to keep it illegal and to keep these things going. This county has gone downhill and it was because people making their own laws, and morals have run rampant and made this a really sad place to live with extremely high suicide rates, tainted water and soil and countless other problems in this area are from the illegal Black market. Humboldt county is a beautiful place and it shouldn’t be a place just for spoiled male pot growers to thrive.

LONG LIVE THE ORIGINAL MARKET. Prices have started to go up and everyone is looking for 100’s and ita only March. Asking the goverment to regulate cannabis is like asking your dentist to fix your car motor. Of course they are fumbling it cause they aren’t humble just greedy. Prices jumped 200 dollars just imagine what june will be like. Long live the black market just wait till NJ nd NY legalize its going to set the underground market on fire. Pens and vape carts are so popular where is NJ and NY going to get millions of pounds of trim to make thousands of liters of distillate? No where. They cant bring it accross state lines cause of interstate commerce clause. If you got mad skills and can grow artisinal flowers the market will be alive for you for the foreseeable future. The height of moonshine sales was 10 years after prohibition ended due to the high demand for cheaper untaxed booze for the working class. Wealth gap is getting bigger and ppl are more distrusting of the govt. then ever. What d0 you think they will choose? Long live the black market sungrown cannabis farm and long live the peoples market!!!!! And shame on those who supported the govt. and extorsion and those who turned their backs on their fellow humans in the name of profit and greed!!!!
