Kinetic Universe Hosting ‘Pint Sized Version’ of ‘Triathlon of the Art World’ for Kids on Mother’s Day
This is a press release from the Kinetic Universe:
Kinetic Universe, the folks who bring Humboldt the Kinetic Grand Championship each Memorial Day Weekend also host a pint sized version of the Triathlon of the Art World for Kinetic Kids every Mothers’ Day at the Sacco Amphitheater in Eureka. The Kinetic Classic Kid Powered Art Race is held Mothers’ Day to commemorate the very first Kinetic Sculpture Race in the world which was held on Mothers’ Day 1969.
This year, the Rutabaga Royals are inviting artists 18 and under to compete to have their artwork on the Kinetic Classic event poster. Entry is free, and details are available at kineticclassic.org. Deadline for entry is April 5th.
Since its founding in 2007 by a group of Rutabaga Queens, Kinetic Universe has had as part of their mission to bring up the next generation of human powered art racers. To do this, they’ve put together a series of age appropriate challenges so that now, artists ranging in age from conception to death can find a Kinetic event which suits them.
The Kinetic Classic consists of three categories by age. The oldest racers, from 4th through 8th graders, are challenged to build their own “Kinetic Push Kart” a soap box derby style vehicle with steering and brakes, but no drive system. Artists at least old enough for Kindergarten can participate in the Rutabaga Rally, where they decorate their own bikes, trikes and scooters with a team theme, and race. The youngest competitors are the Rutababy Buggy Bouncers who add to the festivities by leading the kick off parade around the course. (It’s ridiculously cute.)
Like all Kinetic events, there is plenty of Glory to go around, and creativity is key. Teams compete for prizes in Art, Engineering and Speed, but other kudos can be earned such as “Best Hat,” “Best Team Song,” and “Most Helpful.” Everyone walks away with something, but there’s only one “Perfect Kinetic Nut” per category, a title inherited from the Glorious founder of all Kinetic Racing, Hobart Brown.
To help prepare young engineers and artists for the Classic, the Kinetic Museum Eureka will be hosting builder’s days this Spring. Details are available on the Kinetic Museum page at kineticgrandchampionship.com. That’s also a great place to find out about the Rutabaga Ball 2019, and of course the 50th Anniversary Kinetic Grand Championship happening Memorial Day Weekend May 25th, 26th and 27th.

Yeah, this sounds like fun. Count my family in
Sooo, if the adult teams can have a “Barnacle” (child) on their team, can the kids teams have a “Crustacean” (adult)? Looks like fun none the less
