Fortuna Police Warn Apple Customers to Watch Out
Press release from Fortuna Police Department:
Our department was made aware of a Fortuna resident’s Apple account being hacked. Their account security settings were reset, and purchases made with their account.
The hacker was also able to get into the user’s Cloud account, and several purchases were made including airline tickets, and video games.
Because Apple accounts require a credit card to setup, his credit card information was readily available for the hacker to use.
There is also evidence that his account is being used by multiple users, and may have been sold on the Dark Web.
Please check your account, and if you are using the same password on other accounts change to a stronger new password including a special symbol, upper case character, lower case characters and number combinations. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32040?hl=en
Also consider enabling two-factor authentication. If you find that changes have been made to your account, or that purchases have been made that you have not authorized, contact Apple security immediately. https://getsupport.apple.com

Cause Apple Machines are so Hack Proof ya know!!!
Not so much. But this is about the iCloud, not the machines. Two-factor authentication (as mentioned in the release) is the way to go to keep your account safe.
Good Point, 2FA is a great extra layer of security to have around.
One counter point to the article I would bring up; While good practice, It most likely wasn’t the strength of the password that failed, the user most likely stumbled upon a fake iCloud site that had a login box mimicking Apples. Be extra sure that you are actually on icloud.com, and not icloudz.com
LastPass is worth looking into if you’re like me and struggle keeping your blackbook of passwords up to date or secure.
Not sure which makes me more Yuppitized: a Tesla or an Apple Computer.
It’s common wisdom: Mac security is inherently superior to that of Windows and other PC operating systems.

Sparkle. You need a man bun and a PETA sticker if you own a Tesla….. just saying…
Hacked through an iphone?
What’s up, Rex Bohn? Not taking bribes that are lucrative enough for you these days?
Evidently not, I guess being a STUPIDVISOR doesn’t pay so well these DAZE!!!
Wicked cool username! (wicked in the New England vernacular means GOOD)
Why, thank you! Awesome photo, by the way. 📷
Corruption is with us from the beginning of time. Left, right, up, down, it’s there! Capitalism can support a whole lot more corruption than socialism can, without anybody noticing, that’s why it’s better. Takes a lot of balls to make corruption charges in a public forum, on the internet, unless you got a pit bull layer that you can afford. People used to duel over shit like that not too far back in our history.
~crony capitalism.
We need to settle matters with dueling more. That would be a sweet reality tv show!
Actually you can bypass having a CreditCard attached to your iCloud.. Just google, pretty simple, but definitely a little hidden…
I don’t have an account at Clendenen’s Apples in Fortuna.
(sigh) Two factor authentication only works if the user secures their phones……wanna bet this was done by someone who had access to the victims computer/smartphone/whatever?
I’m no security expert, but the whole system is full of holes, from your debit card to your online bank account.
We need an internet 3.0 really bad – something that is relatively foolproof with some method of unhackable personal ID. I leave it to the next generation to find those methods….
no what we need is the the companys that sell goods or services that accept credit cards to be held libable for all charges that they can not prove a person made. right now it is on the user to prove that they did not make the purchesses however if the companies we unable to hold the user libable i would be they would do a better job of securing proof of who is making the buys.
This should be a lesson to people not to use the same password for multiple website accounts, on the internet.
(And I’m sure Bahn is doing nothing of the sort. And if he was, it wouldn’t hold a candle to what those thieves, I mean socialists, I mean the other, newer sups , from the northern parts of the county, are doing and planning to do.)
🕯Bet you they visited the blog LoCO. Been saying. Shouldn’t have cut me off. What bank?
Ummmm. Making airline reservations requires specific identity information. So, are they that stupid or are they making reservations they can’t use? (And no. I would not suggest showing up at a US airport with fake ID!).
