Ongoing Search and Rescue for Two Young Girls in the Twin Trees Area of Southern Humboldt
Two children, both girls, ages six and eight, are lost in the woods near Twin Trees which is just south of Benbow since about 2:30 this afternoon, confirmed Lt. Mike Fridley of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. He said the girls went missing in the 300 block of Twin Trees Road.
Fridley gave the following description:
- The eight-year-old is about 4’2″ tall and 85 pounds. She has blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing purple rainboots and gray long sleeved shirt with a hood.
- The six-year-old is about 3’6″ tall and weighs about 40 pounds. She has blonde hair with purple streaks in it and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a maroon colored rain jacket with white horses on it as well as blue jeans and pink rain boots.
Diana Totten speaking for the Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue said that they are in the area assisting the Sheriff’s Department with the search. She said there are trained trackers in the area. She said that at this point people should stay clear of the area unless they have permission from the Sheriff’s Office.
Fridley said that the Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue is also responding to the area.
“If anyone sees the girls,” he said, “call 911.

Their mom posted in a Facebook comment that the girls were still missing about 12:15 a.m. Search and rescue is “doing one last sweep and then calling it for the night”

Hay kym ,my sister has property down that way. She called you guys last night. I was envolved in looking for quincy,and rex whitlow. When they were searching. Thats where a LOT of people go missing unfortunately. Very sad. Creepy. Suspicious too. I do very much hope they are found well and alive. Im extremely sorry for the pain the family feels right now. You are in my thoughts. Xx

Kids are incredibly resilient and smart. Am hoping they are found very soon.
A friend suggested the other day that all us women get those old metal shrill whistles like the gym coach had, im going to get some for all the kids i know too!
I bet they are taking shelter inside an old redwood stump or tree.

Really the flew in the Rocky Mountain rescue group out of boulder Colorado or is it ropes that rescue out of Sedona az. Those are the top 2. It stupid to keep the public out. It’s to wet for dog tracking and that’s the only reason to keep citizens out especially here we all have atvs and horses. Not this keeping the public off the search grid was honsels big mistake

We and many many others are praying for protection for the little girls. We are praying they will be found. Prayers out to the family of these girls as well. Shelter Cove prayers are spreading all over the state.
This breaks my heart I too have both an 8 and 6 year old my heart and thoughts are with this family right now… please do let us know if the public is allowed to assist in the search.
I’m sure they’ll be found safe. My sister and I did the same adventure when we were about that age. We got on an old logging road and walked for miles on my grandparents ranch of 7500 acres. We were making our way back when they found us. Then we got spankings which was ridiculous. Best wishes!❤

Sending so much good karma that this will have the same happy ending as when 3-year-old Casey Hathaway recently wandered out of his grandma’s yard in North Carolina. He endured 2 days of pouring rain and a freezing night, but was found safe.
~i recently watched a video where a young boy and his Dad were out in the woods and the boy walked off and got separated from his Dad. After the boy was exhausted he feel asleep by a downed tree – and lo and behold an elk came by and lay beside him keeping him warm through the cold night. The boy was found the next day.
I am hoping and praying for a wonderful update this morning! I know these girls will be found safe❤❤🙏🙏 As a Mom of a 6 year old girl and two boys I stayed up watching for updates most of the night. I sure hope they allow the locals to join in the search! They will be found safe soon I know it!❤❤

At this time, we are asking the community to stay clear of the search area and assist HCSO by sharing information released as well as sending tips to our tip line at: 707-441-5000 if you have them. We currently have search teams from Mendocino County, Napa County, Del Norte County, State Parks, US Coast Guard, Southern Humboldt Technical Rescue, CAL Fire, Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Posse, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, and canine units on scene.
So Happy ur girls were found and home safe all the help from all county’s there helping
