(Hoss) Christopher Lee Hall: A Wonderful Gentle Man

This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected].

(Hoss) Christopher Lee Hall

(Hoss) Christopher Lee Hall

Chris was born March 1, 1979 in Fortuna California and passed away February 19, 2019. Chris was born and raised in Ferndale, graduating from Ferndale high school in 1997. He lived in Rio Dell with his wife and children for many years moving back to Ferndale in 2013.

In school Chris played many sports including soccer, baseball, and football. He started football for the first time his freshman year where his coach gave him the nick name of Hoss, the gentle giant. Football was “Hoss’” favorite sport. Everyone who knew “Hoss” has at least one football story to tell.

Chris married the love of his life and his best friend Megan Barnett on April 10, 2010. They had Aubrie, Kelsie and Skiler. In 2010 he also signed paperwork to adopt Tanner making his family complete. He was an amazing dad and family man. He instilled a strong feeling of love in the home and never went anywhere without having at least one or two of his kids with him. He was always involved in the lives of his children; taking them to games, coaching them in sports, teaching them how to hunt and fish. Chris was a very hard working man and passed on his work ethics to his children. His kids were his pride and joy, his “mini tribe”.

Chris followed his dad and grandfather in the lumber industry where he worked as a timber faller for several years. Also he was employed as a heavy equipment operator, worked in construction, and finally working with his CalTrans family, lets just say the kids made more than a couple “uncles”.

A few of the things that gave Chris great joy was participating in the local logging competitions at Wild Wood Days, abbing, hunting, fishing, and any outdoor activities with his family and friends. He was a football coach for Ferndale youth football for 3 years. He also was a volunteer fire fighter for the Rio Dell fire department. Chris never knew a stranger. He was generous to a fault and would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. He was a wonderful gentle man who touched everyone who knew him. He made many wonderful friends throughout his life and touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Chris was preceded in death by his father Leroy Hall, his grandparents, Joe and Dorothy Hall, and Earl Genzoli. He is survived by his wife Megan Hall, children Tanner, Aubrie, Kelsie and Skiler Hall, mother Marleen Hall, grandmother Lois Genzoli.

The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness in our time of grief. A special thank you to Jessica Hindley, Kathy Hall and Mike Mcenry, Mike and Stacy Ferguson, and the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department.

Please join us for a celebration of life at the Ferndale Community Center on March 9th from 2-4.

Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.

Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.

Just walk beside me and be my friend.

Rest in Peace Hoss, you will be missed by everyone that you came into contact with. I worked with your Dad for years at Palco and he was another one of those ‘gentle’ giants, even though he and I were at loggerheads at times. LOL May you FOREVER REST IN PEACE.

Oh my gosh I’m in shock.Im no longer in Humboldt and just saw this on Facebook. I was just down there this summer to watch my one of my boys football game.As I was there on the ferndale side as my son and his mom reside there in ferndale.i got to see chris.Huge smile shook my hand.
We go why back since highschool.Even tho I was a fortuna boy. he was older then me and was a joy to watch play football. He was one that you watch on every play to see who he was going to pancake. Not a guy you wanted to mess with or get in from of in full speed.I got to spend sometime later in life with him as well when he live out towards centerville.
Such a great man, good friend ,and will be missed. if I could be there in March I would but weather isnt so kind for me here in Washington.Im so sorry to hear this and for your family’s lost. What a great pic of him and very well wrote about him.Rip my friend. You will be missed but not forgotten.I think his Jersey should be put somewhere in the highschool for him as a tribute to such a great man in ferndale.
