Preserve the Harvest today; Relish it Tomorrow

The Master Food Preservers Volunteers are offering a series of demonstrations the Third Thursdays of the month at the Humboldt County Agricultural Center.  They will demonstrate the techniques to make these foods safely, and give you the recipes and information to do it yourself at home.

The Humboldt University of California Cooperative Extension website says

The Master Food Preservers (MFP) of Humboldt County are a group of trained, dedicated volunteers who work as non-paid staff members of the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) to conduct food safety and preservation public service activities in various communities throughout the county.  All information disseminated to the public is research-based, scientific methods of preserving foods at home safely that are approved by the University of California.  Additionally, an MFP Volunteer cooperates with and assists other Cooperative Extension staff, helps prepare for and organize specific educational events, and adheres to the Affirmative Action policies of UCCE.

Dottie Simmons, an MFP volunteer, says, “In addition to that, we love putting up food and are excited to share this information with our community.”

Dorina M Espinoza added:

The demonstrations provide an opportunity for the public to see how to make a specific preserved food from beginning to end. Attendees get to taste the final product, usually made ahead of class. All attendees have the opportunity to ask questions of our trained MFPs, receive the recipe, and receive handouts related to food preservation and safety.

All Demonstrations are 5:30-7:30 pm at Humboldt County Agriculture Center, 5630 South Broadway (Humboldt Hill), Eureka.

In addition to the series above, there will be a separate Kimchi making demonstration at the Humboldt Botanical Gardens in February 9th at the Botanical Gardens site on the Eureka College of the Redwoods Campus.
