🕯All kinds of possibilities on why this is happening, and some people wouldn’t like to hear.

So arson under CA PC 451(c) is a felony, that means a citizen’s arrest is ok.

If you arrest somebody and you haven’t met the requirements for a citizen’s arrest, you’ve just committed kidnapping. It’s been that way since the days of English Common Law so I don’t know why a SovCit like you would have a problem with that.

…a stupid arsonist, if that’s what’s going on. Good luck lighting up a green fir in January even with some napalm.

The wounded tree arsonist has been targeting trees hit by vehicles in the past. Trees bleeding pitch is almost better than napalm. They’ve attempted cardboard with plastic bottles and an accelerant to get these lit. Now it seems to be a torch. Fun! Sure but do it on your own property. Not public roads. We fire fighters shouldn’t have to spend time worrying or investigating this behavior.

Ah-ha, the victims all had one thing in common… It’s da pitch! A predator who attacks the most vulnerable of arboreal citizens

Thank you for the explanation. I could not understand how the burns on the trees happened without the ground around them also being burned.

But, despite this being altogether an unnecessary PITA at any time , will burning them off in the winter keep the pitch from reappearing in the summer when it would be so much more dangerous to be burned?

You don’t have to be a detective to notice all the torched vehicles along SoHum roads.

The question is not if we have an arsonist, but how many we have.

Where’s that guy they supposedly let loose who tried starting fires in Gasquette? A daughter of a fireman told me they let him loose within a few days.

He’s prohibited from posessing “ignition devices.” I hope that means he’s limited to electric kettles, vaping and EZ Bake Ovens..

Abandoned cars are not set on fire by any human. They spontaneously burst into flames by some mysterious and little understood force. It always happens at night and is present universally throughout rural areas.

Might not be the same guy but a red Nissan pickup with a gray trailer was turning around on Lowell St. and Harris today, We’d. Jan 23. He had a lawnmower and gas can in the back. Didn’t get the pic plate.

Some people light the pitch in the wintertime to warm their hands. No harm in it

I didn’t want to say anything, because I have no idea about the why’s of it. And I don’t live there, and I havnt seen more than this article…

But that pitch is older than a few weeks. Likely a solid year, right?
And the bark pull, nothing new or recent, all old it looks like at least.

What an interesting scene. I hadn’t heard of people warming hands with pitch on a tree, but I could see it on a cold night. Broken car, or homeless.

Honestly, I was wondering if anything else pointed to arson ( With this scene particularly).

Then, is this a place with walking transients in Jan? Weird.

not weird, just mental illness compounded by meth. those are historic tree scares from bumper impacts full of pitch that the transient or local kid set on fire.

O, I hear you.

Yeah, probably not the kind of people that would think twice about doing it in summertime. Bad deal.

Trail cams. Especially if you know the trees theyre going to target.

Meth or heroin or exstacy or alcohol…..the blame is with the arsonist, not the drug, And isn’t tweaking like, over? I’m not saying it wasn’t a factor, but let’s stick to facts before pointing a finger at any particular social group (dopers, homeless, etc) There have been incidents of arson for all of known history. You don’t have to be high to wanna do something stupid and destructive…(although it can often be a contributing factor) Stick to the facts, use evidence not prejudice and hunches, you’ll catch the perpetrator(s?) faster and more surely, whether he or she or they are high or not.

Yes, it is darkly amusing how not much of a peep is mentioned by authorities about the ubiquitous vehicle and r.v.’s nuked in roadway pullouts.
I’ve heard that snags are “manufactured” by human forestry professionals, sometimes, to create more “diversity”, “resilience” & “habitat”.
If this dirt road loon wants to create fire scaring on trees to mimic old fire regimes, I suggest not along the roads.
Contact the forest service, they will pay you to set fires
