Two vehicles collided just before 5 p.m. near the Eureka Inn. An electrical van was headed northbound on 7th and a small white SUV was attempting to cross 7th when it hit the van.

This impeded traffic in the area. According to an EPD sergeant at the scene around 5 p.m., traffic will be flowing soon.

The Sergeant said that the elderly woman who was driving the small white SUV was taken to the hospital with minor injuries out of an abundance of caution. He didn’t see any evidence of alcohol or drugs.

🕯I hope the elderly woman is alright but from what was written it does seem to be her fault. But it does not give the cross street and from the picture 7th starts to have lights so it could have been the other guys fault too.

7th st has right of way. F st has stop signs. 7th has stop lights at E, H and I and a stop sign at Myrtle Ave.

sounds like she pulled a “hail mary” as it was referred to in Florida…the elderly can’t see what’s coming so take a chance and usually ended up dead.

Speaking as a grown man that survived childhood in Seizure World (Laguna)..
I think you meant a “Hail Margaret”..
I still have night terrors where I’m on my skateboard and the Cadillacs are circling with the bluish-silver bouffants or shiny bald heads visible above the steering wheels and unnaturally large, blank, freshly dialated, bifocaled eyes peering out of the space between steering wheel and dashboard… onto the curb, off of the curb closer and closer, trashcans be damned. Smashing anything in their paths under tons of American Steel. Faster and faster I push …
And then…
Aghhhh!!…
. :::::::::. golfcart!!..
NOOOOO!!!!…

Age discrimination anyone? There are a few side streets off both 5th and 7th where cars park so close to the corner that you cannot see if anyone is coming. If someone is behind you waiting, you often have to creep out, say a prayer and go for it. Sometimes you lose. And yes, I am older, but have not been in an accident since my young, more careless days!

On another note, no one has called for the sweetheart we found last Monday. Sadly, will have to go to Paws Cause tomorrow as I CAN NOT keep her. Thanks for your help in trying to get her home, Kym. She’s a wonderful, well-trained dog that doesn’t run, I worry that someone dumped her. So sad!

You NEVER ever “go for it”. If you are at an intersection where you cannot see cross traffic, you must slowly enter the intersection untill you can see if there is traffic approaching.

It is not an ideal solution but far less dangerous than suddenly pulling out into traffic.

Ideally we would have a lot more garages/parking lots and a lot more red curb in this town. My wife drives a lifted 4×4 in town soley for the purpose of being able to see at our horrible intersections. We would rather drive electric cars but it’s too dangerous.

its hard to see oncoming traffic in the left lane of 7th at that location due to cars parked on 7th.

I remember a bunch of old geezers going nuts because the word elderly was used in an article referring to an ancient person. That was funny! Ya’ll elderly.

Any driving instructors out there who can tell us the official, best method for crossing an intersection with zero visibility?

DMV has no info on this because it is assumed that these intersections are not allowed to exist.

The elderly woman ran the red light. I know the driver of the other vehicle
