Inside Edition Comes to Humboldt Hyping Murder Mountain, the Series (Oddly They Don’t Appear to Make It to Rancho Sequoia Though)

Rumors flew that Inside Edition was in Humboldt last week in the little town of Alderpoint. Apparently, the rumors were correct because yesterday, The Real Story of ‘Murder Mountain’ showed up on television sets across the nation.

Yesterday’s Inside Edition opens with an pretty blonde anchor stating, “Murder Mountain is about a remote area of California where hundreds of people disappear without a trace every year.”

In spite of the title, the show mostly wanders around the Alderpoint area without actually going up onto Rancho Sequoia, the legal name of the area nicknamed Murder Mountain.

Zero credibility when it starts with the lie that hundreds go missing there anually.

On a separate note, if the anchor were ugly would it have been noted in the article?

I’d have to listen again, which I won’t do, but I got the impression they meant the entire county, not just that one area on that one mountain.
I’ll keep both impressions (yours and mine) in mind to refrain from any emotional manipulating that this type of reporting (video) stirs.

Lie’s and bullshit—-. Looks like the sheriff’s Dept and former sheriff found some Patsy’s to try to help portray there lies to the outside world!!!! There should be a documentary about the extortion lies, unconstitutional behavior, and outrite theivery of the Humboldt county government, and Humboldt county sheriff’s department !!!!! Where’s the producer that did the Netflix murder Mountain he seems more prown to tell the truth !!!!!!

Gasp! Places where there is no cell service! (Dramatic music, holds up the phone for the viewers to see. ) Anything could happen (like driving off the bridge because of not paying attention) and they would be outta luck! Shocking drone pictures of a landscape with NO ONE ELSE in sight. Do these people even take themselves seriously?

“Gun toting quad army”?

Wow, that is literally the most uncool description of anyone ever. LOL! 😆

“Gun toting quad army”???

Why not just be more direct and say these people’s parents are siblings?

You only realize how fake these shows are when they do a piece on something that you have knowledge of… When you see how incredibly false they are then you can figure that they were probably also feeding you bullshit about things you did not know about. So they are piles of bullshit told to you by well-dressed liars and backed by corporate masters. Do not forget this lesson! I’m no fan of Trump but when he yelled FAKE NEWS he was right. It’s propaganda and outright lies being fed to an intellectually lazy public who then pretends they know anything about anything… And this is why I live here in the woods- far away from most of them!

Trump probably thinks Inside Edition is the real news. It, TMZ, that old show “Hard Copy”, Daily Mail TV, etc. are all selling entertainment made to look like news.

Murder Mountain was well done and fair, a bit sensational. Saw the interview with the director, he was forthright and honest in portraying things the way he did. Some scenes were way off, like filming Honeydew and Freshwater which aren’t even close to Alderpoint. Creative expression and bucolic scenery, I guess.

All in all, though, it’s a good take, and highlights the HCSO dragging their feet while also offering their alternative view of why it happened. Fair enough. I didn’t believe a word of what Downey said. Honsal was better, but cleverly disingenuous concerning the actual issues. I do believe the local people who spoke directly firsthand. See the film and decide for yourself.

The Inside Edition take, though, is problematic. It encapsulates only a portion of Murder Mountain and cobbles together segments of the actual movie to fit both their negative and convenient narrative. I think folks’ comments here saying the HCSO is shown in a more positive and proactive light than warranted is absolutely right on.

On the flipside, my mother-in-law isn’t going to visit anymore.

Kym, there are a couple of hundred parcels in the Rancho. Some are uninhabited, some with multiple people on them. Population fluctuates with the seasons, too. Right now lets guess 200-300 people up there, in the summer season could be 1000. These are ballpark figures.

Legallettuce

No Ed never 1000. As a property owner you want less people not more. Even being legal the same rules apply. If I do bring anyone it’s usually a few known friends and for a short amount of time (never more than a week). One good caretaker can handle multiple properties.

The larger legal operation (I mean huge like ground shaking generators huge!!! lol) down the road 3 people run never more than 5 ever on site all season. Most do post processing at other sites now which will reduce population even more and partly the reason for the decline in revenue for local businesses.

Ed, there are 166 parcels in the Rancho Sequoia.. you were close Kym…… For example That would be 5 +people per parcel ED…. Even in summer… no way .

Strange that someone who has been in the area so long would miss my point…

The long reach of a camera pointed exclusively on local blight isn’t going to be helpful, and it’s also misleading to the general public to air these films and reports as “documentary” or “news.” That’s what’s NEW.

Alderpoint is it’s own scene, a little hamlet, not the symbol of all things Humboldt and not a place that urbanites from outside the area are going to understand. There are people who are trying to make lives and business in Humboldt. Media distortion doesn’t help.

Such shoddy reporting! Maybe his phone was no signal for a moment.. but Rancho is very very close to Pratt mountain, one of the biggest cell and raidio towers in SoHum.. The bandana’s on the mystery growers, were a joke! Like people can see who you are.. lol.. But it was funny smoking a joint while interviewing, guess they got one thing right..
Anyways more murder mountain hype.. seriously go to any town America, and there are likely to be bad neighborhoods, murders, kidnapings and the like… so hum is no different. I mean where was it.. Wisconsin or something and some sicko killed an entire family and held the daughter captive just a few blocks from the scene of the crime. The only reason it was solved is because the young girl got away.. in fact, the murder drove right passed the cops with her in the trunk… so.. This is just a lot of garbage on So hummers to make us all look like crooks. Granted, personally I have meet the best of people and the worst of people working in the industry.. but really, it’s no different than any community out there…

Fucking meth mountain series is all this is. What a scam, disgrace, and misinterpretation of a wonderful, historic, time. This is about one methy neighborhood out of many that hold much more righteous values. It’s a small ghetto out of hundreds of thousands of acres of great people. Murder Mountain…. what a joke.

Dave Kirby

I agree. Rancho Sequoia is hardly your normal subdivision. The fact that the minimum parcel size is 10 acres had an serious negative impact. There wasn’t enough water for 40 acre pieces and every parcel was ten and some of the roads on the map were goat paths. It was “affordable land” and attracted a mixed bag of folks. Its reputation long preceded “murder mountain” as a little more rowdy than most of the other subdivisions. In the early days when most of the scene was homesteaders I used to marvel at how little violence there was around the kind of money that was circulating.
