Arcata Encourages Community to Recycle Holiday Trees

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

Arcata, CA – With the holiday season coming to a close, the City of Arcata would like to encourage community members to recycle their live holiday trees.

Proper disposal of a live tree is beneficial to the environment as they can easily be reused or recycled for mulch, compost, and other purposes.

Arcata residents are encouraged to recycle their live trees using one of the following options:

1. Use Your Yard Waste Container. Residents can place trees into their yard waste container as long as it is cut into pieces to fit loosely.

2. Curbside Collection. Recology customers who have opted-in for yard waste collection may leave their tree alongside their yard waste bin on regular collection days.

 Recology customers who have not opted for yard waste collection are encouraged to call 707- 683-4853 to schedule a tree pickup for an additional $5 fee.

 The Cub Scouts will be offering curbside tree pickups for Arcata residents on Saturday, January 5 and Sunday, January 6 for a small fee. Call or text 707-440-9272 for more information.

3. Free Tree Drop-Off Locations- Trees dropped off at these locations must be completely bare. Trees with decorations, plastic or flocking spray cannot be accepted.

 Wes Green Landscaping, located at 6360 West End Road in Arcata. Drop offs will be accepted during normal business hours from Tuesday, January 1 through Sunday, January 13.

 Humboldt Waste Management Authority’s Hawthorne Street Transfer Station, located at 1059 W Hawthorne Street in Eureka. A tree disposal bin will be available during regular operating hours until Thursday, January 10.
