[UPDATE] Humboldt Bay Reopens But High Surf Advisory Remains in Effect
The National Weather Service out of Eureka says that the High Surf Advisory is still in effect until 1 p.m. today. The waves are breaking 18 to 24 feet high along west and northwest facing beaches. They warn, “Large breaking waves along the coast will lead to increased wave run-up on beaches with waves topping and washing over large rocks and jetties. These large waves can be erratic and unpredictable. Use extra caution near the surf zone as these large waves will be capable of sweeping people into the frigid and turbulent ocean water.”
The US Coast Guard has reopened Humboldt Bay to vessel traffic. They urge caution though. They tweeted, “There is still a hazardous bar warning in effect. Mariners advised to use caution when transiting the area & contact US Coast Guard on VHF ch. 16 prior to crossing the bar.”
Centerville Road is still closed at mile marker 4.6, according to the Humboldt County Office of Emergency Service.
UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: Centerville has reopened but for awhile yesterday, the water covered the road.

Its was crazy out there.
Glad you made it back alive.
I don’t think he did.
Wow its beautiful and dangerous.
Someone needs to invent an ice machine that runs on atmospheric carbon, and then we’re good.
Someone needs to pay heed to sound science, not fabricated, politicized numbers.
Centerville Beach was wiped out!!!
