Arcata Native Doris Bugenig Brown to be Remembered Thursday
This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected].
Doris was born November 24th, 1930 and passed away peacefully at home on December 6th, 2018. She was born at Trinity Hospital in Arcata to Joseph and Marie Bugenig. Doris and her two sisters, Erma and Shirley were raised on their parent’s dairy farm in the Arcata Bottoms. Joe and Marie later moved their dairy farm to McKinleyville on Bugenig Avenue.
Doris attended Canal School in Arcata and graduated from Arcata High School in 1949. Doris and her sister, Shirley met their future husbands, twin brothers, Darrell and Don Brown. Doris and Darrell married on September 17th, 1954. Doris was a stay-at-home housewife, raising 2 children, Lydia and George. Doris was extremely close to her mom and sisters, talking on the phone daily, multiple times.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie Bugenig, her sister’s Erma Bettendorf-Bugbee and Shirley Brown; and her loving husband, Darrell Brown. At the time of Darrell’s passing, she and Darrell had been married for 58 years.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Lydia Frick and husband Dave; son George Brown; Grandchildren, Jennifer Hooven and husband Shannon; Tara Brown and fiancé Tyler Blevin and son, Bryson; Great Granddaughter, Makayla Ray and fiancé Robert Barajas; Great-Great Granddaughter, Aubrey Barajas; Brother-in-Law, Don Brown and numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
The Family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Humboldt and Mom’s care team, Virginia, Sheila, and Aisha. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Humboldt.
There will be a memorial service Thursday, December 13th at 1 p.m. at Paul’s Chapel with Gravesite services to follow at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Arcata.
