This is a press release from Humboldt Bay Fire:
12/11/18
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASESubject : Structure Fire, 55 W. Third St, Eureka.
Contact : Timothy Citro, Battalion ChiefOn Tuesday, December 11th @ 0411 hrs, Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to a reported Structure Fire in the area of W. Third St. and A St.
Humboldt Bay Fire responded with 3 Engines, 1 Truck and 1 Chief Officer. The first arriving unit located an exterior fire in the alley to the rear of building @ 55 W. Third St.
The fire was burning on a loading dock against the building and extending up an exterior wall. Upon further investigation it was determined the fire was actively extending to the interior of the building.
The building is large commercial warehouse structure that was unoccupied at the time of the fire and was secured with plywood over all doors and windows. The roll up doors to the building were also secured and bolted shut in place. The first arriving units attacked the fire from the exterior while other units forced entry into the building through the secured doors and roll-up doors. Crews then made an interior attack and completely extinguished the fire. Damage was limited a single wall and the fire did not extend to any other part of the structure.
Damage is estimated at $3,000. Firefighters remained on scene for two hours to remove smoke throughout the large building and completely extinguish the fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries and a human caused fire could not initially be ruled out.
EPD and HBF are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. Humboldt Bay Fire would like the following agencies for their assistance: Arcata Fire District, Eureka Police Department and PG&E.

looks like if you live in Eureka you should make sure you have fire insurance right now
do you know anyone that doesn’t have fire insurance? you have to outright own your dwelling to not carry it. I don’t even know anyone that owns their house.
I own mine, such as it is, but I still keep the Fire Insurance on it, just in case!!!
renters dont always have fire insurance
Boy sparkie really working hard this holiday. 😱
>”… a human caused fire could not initially be ruled out.”
Eh ? Hmmm… I wonder if there were there any lightning strikes in Eureka ?
Might be another blaze by the ‘dumpster fire arsonist’.
A very good possibility, this sounds suspicious AF, considering the dumpster fires etc of late!!!
Some druggie bum is probably setting these fires….
Hope some property owners get hold of the firebug for half an hour before first responders arrive.
Seriously not cool at all.
Waaay sketchy..
Arson, animal abuse and bedwetting are deemed to be the unholy trifecta or prerequisite triumverant for a serial killer…
Stay vigilant my friends
True Anne, and whoever is doing this is going to wind up killing someone (if they haven’t already). This should be treated no differently than walking around shooting guns at people.
Looks like the RCAA dumpster.
Is this due to transients keeping warm or something else?
Probably not in that location. Bum-fires are usually near bum-camps.
you should look at the street view image of this location. homeless bus and the entire loading dock is covered with homeless, its a 2015 image.
