Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Dec. 7, 2018, at about 2:49 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of State Highway 36 near mile marker 43 for the report of a traffic collision and gunshot victim.

When deputies arrived on scene, they located a truck alongside the road with damage consistent with a traffic collision. Inside the vehicle, deputies located a 47-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

While continuing to investigate, Sheriff’s deputies located a second vehicle possibly involved in the collision on Van Duzen Road near Alton.

Sheriff’s investigators are currently in the process of interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. This incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to contact Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Mark Peterson at (707) 445-7251.

Van Duzen Road doesn’t go anywhere near Alton. It’s more than 40 miles away from that town.

Van duzen road isn’t near Alton. I’ve heard through the grapevine that it was the Sanchez, Fiddler posse. AP 8. Scumbag rippoffs. He was chasing them and unfortunately caught up. RIP AJ

But Kym, that is still the same thing as one person’s idea of “sensible” is not going to match yours anyway. I leave civil out as that is a foreign concept to many anyway.

If a harsh statement is also accurate, is it ok even if damning to the deceased? Is the usual topic drift into generalities in comments to be taken as disrepectful when it has little to nothing to do with the deceased but relatives or friends see it as personal?

We passed it yesterday to get our xmas tree and it was ON 36 just a couple miles east of Dinsmore above the trailer park before the ranger station. They were still investigating about 1pm and cleaned up by the time we came back around 3-4pm.

The real problem is the hateful Anti-pot Community always likes to twist every crime into a “pot related crime”, this does a real disservice to the community who is trying to heal from the loss of a loved one. It is sad that these anti-pot types can stoop to such lows to politicize their agenda of hatred, control of others and ego consciousness. Trolls, plain and simple

ive always liked to think that while loose on pot laws, the emerald triangle is quiet aggressive when it comes to busting violent crimes… hopefully there was good evidence left behind and they can get the people responsible for whatever happened. AJ was a well respected guy, RIP brother man

Humboldt county has one of the highest unsolved murder rates in the whole COUNTRY!!!! It also has one of the highest missing persons rates in the country!!! Per capita its off the charts. Our law enforcement is too caught up and obsessed with money grabs and extortion too actually do police work!!! Maybe that new armored vehicle at our expense will get some murders solved!!! Bbbllaaa. Hhhhaaa hhhhaaa. Yeah it was funny to me too

I can’t say that i’ve checked records or newspapers lately (i swore off newspapers the beginning of this year).

Nevertheless, let’s emit positive thoughts outward, specifically so this man’s family and friends can find resolve and lighten their load.

Horseshit. Last year our per capita murder rate was 1 per 100,000. The national average was 4.2.

Fake news, quit makin’ things up.

That’s only when a body is found that it’s counted as a homicide. How many people go missing every year out there and never found? I’m pretty sure the homicide per capita is substantially higher than 1 per 100k. It’s just way too easy to dispose of the bodies in humboldt. Go down any old logging road at 3 am. Really wish this “fake news “ bs would come to a stop The only false claim is the one your making No body no case. Therefore no markup on the homicide ticker. Bet if you look at the missing persons per capita humboldt would be in the highest bracket nationwide.

That sounds more reasonable. Thanks for the reality check for mr fake news up there. Humboldt county is the most dangerous place I ever lived for many different reasons. Southern Oregon is way better on every level
