All Fired Up! at Saturday’s Fire Safety Workshop & Firefighter Celebration
This is a press release from the Institute for Sustainable Forestry and the Garberville and Fortuna Rotary Clubs
Be Safe and Celebrate at “All Fired Up!” Saturday December 8th
Fire safety is on everyone’s mind these days. Living as we do on the human/nature interface we need all the tools and knowledge we can muster. To that end, The The Institute for Sustainable Forestry (ISF) and the Garberville and Fortuna Rotary Clubs will present “All Fired Up! 2018” at the Southern Humboldt Community Park, Saturday, December 8th from noon until 5pm. Shelter will be provided. Food and beverages on sale.
The free event features fire safety workshops starting sharply at noon. Local and national experts will speak on home and homestead fire safety techniques, including county planners speaking on controlled burn efforts in our region. There will be a hands-on demonstration of biochar carbon banking techniques.
At 3.30pm there will be a celebration honoring volunteer firefighters from every watershed from Fortuna to Piercy, Alderpoint to Shelter Cove. Rotary will present commendations to fire heroes from various watersheds. The friends and neighbors that keep us all safe deserve our recognition. Get Fired Up and come cheer them on.
Guest workshop presenters include Kelpie Wilson, Redwood Summer veteran and national biochar expert. Local fire safety expert Dave Kahan will share strategies for fire safe homes. Cybelle Immet from County Planning will discuss strategies for fire safe communities in our area. Also speaking will be Lenya Quinn Davidson from UC Ag Extension, speaking on prescribed burns in Humboldt. She was recently interviewed on NPRs Morning Edition, speaking on forest management. For more information and pre-registration call ISF at 599 2549. Food and beverages will be on sale, and shelter will be provided.

Sounds good. I’ll exit for a toke or three when the “County Planners” take the mic.
Cybelle Immet from County Planning – lemmie guess, from San Diego.
actually Cybelle is Humboldt county raised and she works hard for the fire safe councils and our volunteer fire departments. She is awesome!
But keep guessing if that is what works for you. I like facts but thats just me
Thank you very much excdfer. There is hope!
I recommend you attend and listen to Cybelle she facilitates great meetings and has promoted firesafe councils and firewise communities and helps with formation and grant funding sources! lots of fuel reduction projects have happened in part to her hard work and dedication. Maybe you know someone who has land that needs one?
Needs a Grant? No, I don’t.
Thank you for the info. I’ll pay attention and bring back what i learn here to my little neighborhood.
Noon to 5:00 -can make it to the Mateel too!
Well, they could not have picked a better example of “fuel reduction projects” having this event down at the Park. I’m surprised TimOthy Metz is not speaking…
