President Donald Trump issued an executive order declaring a National Day of Mourning and closing Federal offices on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in honor of former President George Herbert Walker Bush.

The US Postal Service sent out a statement. They said,

Out of respect for the 41st President of the United States and to honor his vast contributions to our country during his lifetime, and consistent with the Presidential Proclamation, the United States Postal Service will suspend regular mail deliveries, retail services and administrative office activity on Dec.  5.

We will provide limited package delivery service on that day to ensure that our network remains fluid and we do not experience any impacts to our package delivery operations that might negatively affect our customers or business partners during the remainder of our busy holiday season.

Shasta Trinity National Forest’s twitter account stated, “All Forest Service offices will be closed on Wednesday, Dec 5 in observance of the National Day of Mourning for the late President George H.W. Bush. Offices will reopen Thursday at 8 a.m.”

UPDATE 9:20 a.m.:
Klamath Trinity Joint Unified School District is also closed. They stated,

On December 3, 2018, President Donald J. Trump declared Wednesday, December 5, 2018 a National Day of Mourning for President George H.W. Bush. In observance, all KTJUSD schools will be closed
tomorrow. School will resume as normal on Thursday, December 6, 2018.

UPDATE 12:05 p.m.: Humboldt County tweeted, “County offices (except essential services) to close tomorrow, Wednesday Dec. 5 in observance of National Day of Mourning. Normal business will resume on Thursday, Dec. 6.”

When readers see the new book, “The Worst President In History, the Legacy of Barack Obama,” liberals are likely to laugh at the list of 200 reasons. Conservatives are likely to think 200 is too few.

For authors and Obama critics Matt Margolis and Mark Noonan, the list seems to grow every day, and is the reason they have just updated their 2016 book.

Theirs is an account of the Democrat’s presidency and includes the controversies Obama waded into during his last months in office and first year in private life, like his administration’s effort to protect Hillary Rodham Clinton from prosecution over her private email server and controversial Clinton Foundation deals. Reason No. 200 cites the FBI’s anti-Trump, pro-Clinton bias.

“There was a lot of stuff we needed to add,” said the authors of their revised 491-page book that cites 1,193 endnotes.

“Obama’s real record has been whitewashed by former members of his cabal, his supporters, the media,” they wrote, concluding, “if their fantasy version of Obama’s presidency goes unchallenged, we will lose more than just the facts to history.”

A sampling of the 200 pulled from the book:
Blaming Bush and Congress for his woes. “During Obama’s first term, he blamed Bush for the economy, for the botched Operation Fast and Furious, for the massive deficits, for our plummeting national wealth, for our problems in the Middle East — for just about everything that went wrong.
War on coal and oil. “Obama forced more than 200 coal-fired plants to shut down over a five year period.”
Cut funding to fight aids. “This inexplicable decision had a devastating effect on Africa, where most AIDS deaths occur.”
Nominating John Brennan as CIA director. Brennan has gone on to be President Trump’s critic.
DACA via executive order. Obama went around Congress to give amnesty to some 800,000 younger illegal immigrants.
Assault on the press. The Committee to Protect Journalists, said of Obama’s media attacks, “In the Obama administration’s Washington, government officials are increasingly afraid to talk to the press. Those suspected of discussing, with reporters, anything that the government has classified as secret are subject to investigation, including lie-detector tests and scrutiny of their telephone and e-mail records.”

__CommonSense,

The “strike” on Big Lake, Alaska was a “parting shot” in honor of “Poppy Bush” —George Herbert Walker Bush, who was “executed” that same day by lethal injection “for his part” in 911 and many, many other crimes.

The reporters fondly gushing about GHW Bush and calling him “Poppy” right in the press, without a clue that this nickname refers to his kingpin status in the opium drug trade and isn’t just a fond family substitute for “darling Papa”.

Please remember that George Herbert Walker Bush was knighted by the Queen for his service — to whom and what can only be inferred.

“If the American people knew what we have done, they would string us up from the lamp posts”. George HW

I may be somewhat of a nationalist, but mourning for any of the bush klan seems a little ambitious.
Maybe he was more visionary than I recall, I was barely in Highschool when he was president so I’ll defer to older folks who saw him in action, regarding wether the nations populace should mourn his passing.

Fought against him and his policies in every way I could. I’d like to see balanced media about what things he did- both good and bad-instead of this national media whitewash of history. However…calling somebody out after they just died and calling them terrible names is a cowardly act. I’m not mourning but I’ll respectfully give others the space to do so. Don’t believe everything they say though!

My what an articulate post.

At nineteen President Bush received his aviator wings and at 20 was flying torpedo bombers off the aircraft carrier U.S.S. San Jacinto. He flew 58 combat missions and was shot down over the Bonin Islands where his navigator and gunner were both killed during parachute decent. For his service he was awarded the distinguished flying cross.

The reason you have a business where you can “get the orders out” is because of brave men like President Bush.

You are a trouble person indeed it’s all bout the business and your profit, not out of respect for who fought for your country? What branch of the service did you serve in? I am sure one day will not make or break your profits, especially if you treat your customers with that attitude and the mouth attached to it.

Any excuse not to go to work, I guess. I find it hard to believe that one of the “greatest generation” would want people to lose a day of productivity.

Funny how we put on rose colored glasses for this guy. I vividly recall my dad HATED Bush and when I talked to him a few days ago he said “Bush was a good man”…. I called him out on it and he clarified “well, at the time I hated him, but compared to what we have now, he was great!”

The Democrat Insanity Measuring System reports a ground breaking finding. In order to maintain that Trump is the worst President ever, meriting a sustained level of violent rhetoric , the hate expressed for former Presidents as must be reassessed and downgraded in order not to exceed the intrinsic physical limit that a human can spew without exploding.

In other words, finding that earlier Presidents were not so bad after all allows the finger pointer to recycle the same level of emotional agitation and warnings of dire consequences without worrying that he was just hysterical before Trump came into office yet the world was not destroyed as he predicted. He can just apply a layer of denial and keep on doing the same irrational thing while insisting that it is different this time.

Now dont get me wrong I do not support the party he was associated with, saying that do any of you or any of your family members or close friends maybe have disabilities and are presently being treated for or have been harrassed for it and ahead to go and say something. How about all of those of you in wheelchairs, how do think you now have accessableity. July 2, ADA, and as vice president saw the fall of the Soviet Union.

Probably the Federal government “national day of mourning” is the result of a series of one decision leading to another rather than any one person’s choice. First, to avoid gridlock in Washington DC over the funeral, the majority of government agencies, because they headquarter in Washington, will be closed. Then because the headquarters will be closed, the branch offices out in the field will be closed. So now that most agencies will be closed anyway, and business hard to transact, along with the Unions saying that giving some workers the day off and not others is wrong, it’s just easier and cheaper to shut the whole thing down than try to work through all the formalities and legalities of picking and choosing where a shut down can be applied.

Not making a judgement here but pointing out the way things work in an entity that is created and maintained by regulations. Well, maybe a bit of judgement in that using the government comes with both good and bad results.

GHW Bush, September 11,… 1991
Perhaps the beginning of our current, almost 30 year, war.

http://www.cryan.com/war/speech/ (full transcript)

“We gather tonight, witness to events in the Persian Gulf as significant as they are tragic. In the early morning hours of August 2nd, following negotiations and promises by Iraq’s dictator Saddam Hussein not to use force, a powerful Iraqi army invaded its trusting and much weaker neighbor, Kuwait…

Once again, Americans have stepped forward to share a tearful good-bye with their families before leaving for a strange and distant shore. At this very moment, they serve together with Arabs, Europeans, Asians and Africans in defense of principle and the dream of a new world order. That’s why they sweat and toil in the sand and the heat and the sun.”

You do know that Palestine was a British creation? There is no historic “Palestein” or Palestinian people. They are semetic Arabs and that whole area has been under the thumb of one tyrant or another for 3000 years. If you want to go back that far then go back to WW1 when BP first went into the area to establish oil fields and began Balkanizing the area by pitting one form of Islam against another.

I have no excuse for the state of Israel. The policies pushed by them are atrocious. But, you say “we”… did you do it? I know I had no hand in the creation of Israel.

On that note, why doesn’t Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the rest of the neighboring Arab nations offer land and homes to the Palestinians? Because this keeps the pressure on Israel to cope with an intimate populace who wants to destroy Israel. Unfortunately the Palestinians are political pawns and those playing them have no empathy for their plight.

So many Palestinians are willing pawns in that. In fact, if there is any hope raised that a resolution is possible that does not include total destruction of Israel, there are Palestinian supported factions who will spring into action to frustrate that hope by violence.

This is the result of politicizing being a victim.

to bad that the reason for saddams invasion is kuwait isnt as widly known. see kuwait was driling oil wells across the border into iraqs land and then selling the oil at a lower price. I do have alot of respect for the Bush family as they are one of the great families of this nation but kuwait …… saddam had every right to take that country and burn those wells.

Saddam invaded with a tacit “okay” from the Bush I administration, then that invasion was used as an excuse to partially destroy Iraq. It is estimated that 500,000 children died as a result of the conflict and subsequent embargo. How much oil is worth that many lives?

Thanks for beginning the end of Iraq and killing endless civilians so many times that people lost every member of their large family thus pushing them into groups doing what we deem terrorist acts. Only theyre doing exactly what we did to them. You created the taliban! Thanks georgie! &thx for putting down all the folks at the superdome during katrina, that policy you helped your son with then is still playinh out today, look at butte county, all those poor folks being displaced with not one fema trailer in site. Trump thanks you for all the rule breaking you&reagan did during Iran contra that led to you pardoning criminals in your administration just like trump, you put the rules in place for him. Going around Congress like that is what trump loves. And Panama slaughter i mean invasion? Ooh Donny luvd that wished he could have.
From one tyrant to another. Georgies only redeeming quality was his dislike of carl rove&don rumsberg (who did give saddam hussein a gold gift frim reagan as one of his first gigs in govt, they courted saddam like crazy)

Way to close the PO’s during their busiest season and throw off the end of school date for all those kids. A flag half mast isnt enough?
Jackass. Idiotic.

no one is perfect and there is facts you seem to over look or have never experanced before. there never is a perfect answer. all one can do is attempt to do what is the best for which ever side they are on. war must be fought one way or the other. even you with your words are fighting a war of sorts, and heaven forbid you had more than words what the war would look like and for what ? there is one reason we live the way we do and one reason that despite all of our faults this nation is still the easiest one to move to and the one nation most people in the world want to live in. and that my friends is beacuse we are the best because of the wars qe fight and how we fight them. you may not agree with them or me for that matter, but i sure dont see you offering to trade your spot here with someone else.

The school cancellation is surprising. I wouldn’t think most parents are getting the day off, and that’s short notice to find childcare. I would understand if it were a sitting president’s memorial, but this seems kind of random. Maybe it’s just me.

Am guessing that they won’t have the same degree of honoring for another one term President, Jimmy Carter. If they judged by integrity to have a day of mourning, they would surely need to do that.

Politics aside, county employees learned of this forced “day of mourning” at the last minute (today!). So not only are many people going to lose a day’s wages, other publicly needed county offices will be closed with pretty much no notice.
I respect the right for anyone to honor any public figure in their own way, but it is wrong to forcibly take away a day’s work from people just trying to work and survive in the name of pomp and circumstance.
