SoHum Dancing Performing Sleeping Beauty December 7-9 at the Redwood Playhouse
This is a press release from SoHum Dancing:
This year for our winter performance we are presenting excerpts from the classical ballet The Sleeping Beauty. We will perform scenes from the opening Prologue and Act One. The Prologue celebrates the Christening of the baby Princess Aurora, with blessings and gifts from the fairies of the kingdom. The joyous occasion takes a dark turn when the fairy Carabosse arrives, accidently uninvited. As her gift, she gives the Princess a curse, that on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on a spindle and die. The Lilac Fairy, who has not yet given her gift, saves the day with her gift though- the princess will prick her finger, but will fall into a deep sleep. Act two will be presented in the spring, where we will see the spell broken, and the kingdom awakened one hundred years later with a joyous celebration.
SoHum Dancing is a local dance studio, where we offer dance classes to community members of all ages. Our focus is classical ballet. We strive to cultivate the love of dance as a performance art in its’ many styles, especially in the young people of our community. We work to promote physical fitness and well-being through movement and music, while also helping develop skills of self -discipline, commitment, and accountability. Some of our students participate in international dance exams through the Royal Academy of Dance, a long standing organization based in London England. Every year we put on two performances for the community to enjoy, as well as participate in the Summer Arts and Music Festival.
