Redwood Park Will Be Partially Closed Tuesday For Hazard Tree Removal Project
This is a press release from the City of Arcata:
Arcata, CA – The City of Arcata recently found several dead and dying redwood trees located in a high public use area inside Redwood Park.
The trees are located near the Redwood Lounge in the south parking lot and are in close proximity to Redwood Park’s playground, picnic and stage areas.
State specialists working with the City found the redwood bark beetle (Phloeosinus sequoiae) was present within the affected trees, which lead to their demise.
For the safety of the public, the City will be removing six of the dead and dying trees from Redwood Park on Tuesday, December 4 at 9 a.m. While this project is scheduled to take only a few hours, anticipated rainy and windy weather conditions may cause delays that could push the project behind schedule.
Due to the work required for this project, parts of Redwood Park will be closed periodically while the affected trees are removed. For safety purposes, community members are encouraged to avoid the project area and to follow all directions and traffic control devices.
Park and street closures will include Bayview Road, Redwood Park’s south parking lots, the Redwood Lounge, the Redwood Lodge, the picnic, stage and playground areas, and some forest trails that directly lead to the park.
14th Street and all trails outside the project area will remain open, and City staff will be on hand to direct the public to safety around the project area for the duration of this project.

Pretty strange looking finger, hope he is ok.
missing parts of three fingers
Thank God for the Park Specialists identifying a redwood bark beetle.
More like the tress and bees are dying from man-made Master-masterbation airborne worldwide – the beetles are the clean-up crew.
Well at least there getting them out of there.
are they going to sell the timber they are removing and if not why not and if so where to and for how muchand where will the funds generated be used ?
Wish those beetles would eat weed instead, we really need something that does that instead.
Some scientist should inject Russet Mite DNA into them and see what happens…
Y Knot?
Take a bow.
(If not obvious, this is sarcasm).
Where does your anti-civilization group hibernate? Just grunt once in awhile so the living doesn’t trip over you.
Toads eat bugs, are in danger from humans or lack of beetles.
If the fires don’t getcha, the bark beetles will.
16 tons, and what do ya get? Another tree ruined & deeper in debt…
