It’s Christmas Time at the Clarke
This is a press release from the Clarke Historical Museum:
Eureka – There’s nothing quite like a Victorian tea party for celebrating the spirit of Christmas. So the Clarke Historical Museum invites members and their guests to dust off their Dickensian finery for the annual Victorian Tea Party. The party will take place at the Ingomar Club in the historic Carson Mansion from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday December 9th.
“The annual tea party has become quite the event on Humboldt’s social calendar, and the atmospheric setting of the Carson Mansion really brings the spirit of a Victorian Christmas to life,” says Ben Brown, Director/Curator at the Clarke. “While costumes are not required, hats and gloves are encouraged. If enough people come in hats, we might even hold a “Best Holiday Hat” contest!”
Along with a scrumptious meal of scones, sandwiches, teacakes, and petit fours and big pots of hot tea to warm the cockles of the heart, guests will be treated to a nostalgic display of Victorian gowns and textiles. Musical accompaniment will be provided by local harpist Julia Sheppard, and a cash bar will be available for those looking for a stronger seasonal quaff.
Ticket prices are $50 per person for the tea or $60 for tea plus a guided tour of the Carson Mansion, with all proceeds going to fund future developments at the museum. Parties of six may reserve tables in advance. Tickets are available through any Clarke Museum member, at the museum, or on the museum’s website at www.clarkemuseum.org.
