Stolen Firearms Found After Suspect Flees From Alleged Drug Transaction
This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On Nov. 17, 2018, at about 10:07 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office K9 deputy on patrol near the 4500 block of Lewis Ave. in the unincorporated area of Eureka observed a possible narcotics transaction occurring between two men in the street.
Upon seeing the deputy, both subjects began to flee. One subject fled from the area in a vehicle, the second subject, later identified as 28-year-old Jared Randell Nelson, ran to a nearby residence and forced entry inside. The deputy followed Nelson into the residence and announced that Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office K9 Gusto was about to be deployed. Nelson exited from a bedroom of the residence without further incident and was taken into custody.
During a search of Nelson, deputies located ammunition, approximately two grams of suspected heroin and counterfeit money.
Deputies learned that while in the room, Nelson had discarded a pistol underneath a bed. Deputies located the firearm, which was loaded. Deputies also located a rifle with a sawed-off barrel and two loaded magazines nearby the room. Deputies learned that the rifle and magazines were also associated with Nelson. Both firearms were reported stolen out of Humboldt County.
Nelson was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges: felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, possession of a loaded firearm known to be stolen, manufacturing a short-barreled rifle, trespassing, resisting arrest, grand theft and violation of probation. Additional charges of possession of heroin, possession of a controlled substance, violation of probation and possession of counterfeit money are pending District Attorney review.
Anyone with information regarding this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

Well at least the guns are off the street.
It’s not the guns we need off the street, it’s the scum-bags.
Amen!!!
🔫🤪💉 ….. and a $10 bill!
Perfect, Willie!
Maybe i’m not comprehending the ‘guns off the street’ , or the ‘perfect’ , for saying ‘guns off the street’ comments.
Just to balance the battlefield . . . The City of Eureka has 25 too many revenue generators wearing a badge , With guns on the street. Three plus one for every 1,000 population according to Eureka’s Freeman’s Charter is 31.
The City of Eureka uses the ol “Budget” equation that equals 56. Meaning –asphyxiation on irredeemable paper.
its a good thing this Okie wasn’t in EPD’s jurisdiction.
Now he’ll just have to steal a couple more.
… and a $10 bill…

I can’t recall the meaning of the Teardrop tats undedr both eyes one side i belive is having killed someone & I don’t know which side is which or what the other side siginifies, but it can’t be anything good for a fact!!!
The teardrops are there to let all the cops know he is at least on probation, more likely parole and with search clause. Nice of him to make the LE job easier.
Oh boy- He is looking at some probation and maybe even a stern warning…That will teach him!!
Laws regarding felon in possession, or possession of stolen firearms need to be more severe! It seems like there are more laws to take firearms away than there are to keep them out of the hands of screw ups. How does that make sense? Only a good person with a gun can stop a bad person with a gun.
