“Partnering with our local [Emergency Road Service] vendors, we delivered a total of 1400 pounds of turkeys to four charity organizations that will be feeding the homeless and disadvantaged throughout Eureka and Arcata,” Justin McCray of Northern California AAA told us.
Stops included the Eureka St. Vincent De Paul, Eureka Rescue Mission, the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center, and Arcata House and Veterans Hall.
St. Vincent De Paul, in Old Town Eureka on W. 3rd St. was the first stop, receiving several boxes of Thanksgiving Day birds.
So far, the turkeys are the only component of the traditional holiday dinner that have been secured in donations. Mary Price, who manages the service, explained that she hopes additional donations will come in soon.
Celebrating the Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday, November 22nd, St. Vincent De Paul expects to serve about 700 plates to people in need.
A few blocks away, at the Eureka Rescue Mission in Old Town on 2nd Street, Bryan Hall Sr., Executive Director at the Mission received the donation of birds with volunteers ready.
