Blasting to Temporarily Close Forest Service Route 6 Tomorrow

This is a press release from the Six Rivers National Forest:

United States Forest Service USFSWILLOW CREEK, Calif. – The Six Rivers National Forest’s Lower Trinity, Orleans and Ukonom District Ranger Nolan Colegrove is taking safety precautions and enforcing a hard road closure on Forest Service Route 6 between 11AM and 4PM, Thursday, November 1.

The closure will be in effect due to blasting in the Sims Mountain rock pit and associated roadwork on the Lower Trinity Ranger District. The closure will be on Forest Service Route 6 from the intersection of Forest Service Road (FSR) 6N06 and FSR 4N31 to the intersection of FSR 4N36 and FSR 4N10. These FSRs are all segments of Forest Service Route 6.

The roadwork is required to offset sediment production from the 2004 Sims Fire to the South Fork Trinity River. Fire settlement funds have been used to upgrade culverts, install rocked rolling dips, and surface roads with rock.
