Arcata Playhouse Hosting Seventh Annual Joni Mitchell Tribute Show

This is a press release from the Arcata Playhouse:

For 6 years, Humboldt County has flocked to the Arcata Playhouse to hear the music of the incomparable Joni Mitchell. A testament to the enduring power of Joni Mitchell’s music, as well as to the skill of the ensemble performing it, the show sells out year after year, even when it was extended to two nights! This year’s tribute will again take place at the Arcata Playhouse, on Friday and Saturday, November 2 and 3. Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8pm.

This 7th annual tribute celebrates Joni’s 75th birthday and the 50th anniversary of her first album, Song to a Seagull. The show will feature a number of songs from Song to a Seagull, as well as a selection of songs from 10 other albums. The ensemble varies the song list every year, so returning audiences hear new songs each time.

This annual tribute show is the creation of two talented singers/musicians, Jan Bramlett and Morgan Corviday, both of whom perform in the show. Their goal was to not only showcase the magic of Mitchell’s writing, but to introduce audiences to a diverse selection of her eclectic repertoire. Mitchell has recorded 168 songs on 17 albums, so there is plenty of material! Between the songs, you’ll hear funny and touching stories of Joni Mitchell’s life and adventures. The audience is encouraged to sing along on the encores, adding to the fun and spirit of celebration.

The ensemble includes some very well-known Humboldt singers and musicians: Jan Bramlett, Morgan Corviday, Marla Joy, Marcia Mendels, Mike LaBolle, Chris Manspeaker, Violet Dinning, Julie Froblom, Tina Garsen, Rosalind Parducci, Leslie Quinn, Beverly Twist, and Joel Sonenshein.

Tickets will soon be available locally, at Wildberries in Arcata, and The Works in Eureka, and are available now online www.joni2018.brownpapertickets.com. Get yours early, because this show will sell out again!

P.S.- The Joni Project is holding a food drive! Help us help those in our community suffering with food insecurity—bring canned or non-perishable foods with you to the show! Donations will go to Food for People.

Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe it’s the time of man
I don’t know who l am
But you know life is for learning
We are stardust
We are golden
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden.

Thanks for posting this, Kym—this show is always amazing….just like the music of Joni Mitchell. I’m proud to be part of this dedicated group of singers and musicians who work for months to perfect their performance of her songs (which are not easy!) so that, even though Joni doesn’t perform any more, herself, her music is still heard. This show has sold out in years past , but we don’t take it for granted—there is always so much wonderful stuff happening in Humboldt. So we hope your readers will see this and choose to spend an evening with the music that has captivated decades of listeners. You won’t be disappointed!
