You’re Invited to a ‘Free, Hands-On, Interactive Station Demonstration Training Workshop’ on November 14

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services:

Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, Hazardous Materials Unit is offering a free, hands-on, interactive “Station Demonstration” training workshop to provide necessary skills and knowledge to help keep employees safe, and keep businesses in compliance with the law.

They invite you to attend this two hour educational event on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Humboldt County Agriculture Building, 5630 South Broadway, Eureka.

Please note: due to limited space, RSVP is required! Please only plan to attend if you can commit to the entire time frame.

 

This workshop offers fun and informative training activities, including (*subject to change):

Fire Extinguisher Training: Fire Department personnel will give instruction on how to properly use a fire extinguisher, with hands-on demo where each attendee can practice using a fire extinguisher

Spill Simulation:  a practice run of spill:  identification, containment, reporting, and hazardous waste storage procedures  

“Cannabusiness” Question Room: a chunk of time at the end of the event to ask our Senior Inspector a plethora of cannabis related questions

*Cannabis facilities:  submit your questions in advance with your RSVP.

Personal Protection Equipment and Mask Fit Test (with certification): learn how to fit and test an N95respiratory mask (provided), and information on other safety and protective equipment

Incompatible Materials and Proper Storage: learn how to evaluate haz mats for hazards from Safety Data Sheets, and determine where and how they should be safely stored. Mixing incompatible materials may cause an unwelcome reaction and create a hazard!

Labeling Instruction: hazardous waste proper labeling tutorial (label provided)

Directions to Ag Building:   from downtown Eureka, head south on Broadway, follow Hwy 101 S and take exit 701 toward Humboldt Hill;  keep right to continue on S Broadway St/Hill Rd; turn right and arrive at the Ag building on right (just before the KIEM-TV building).
