Felon Convicted of Possession of a Firearm, More

Press release from the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office:

District Attorney DA HumboldtToday, Humboldt County District Attorney Maggie Fleming announced that yesterday a Humboldt County jury convicted John Anthony Vella of two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition by a felon, all felonies. The case began on September 17, 2017 with a traffic stop by Eureka Police Department (EPD) Officer Mychal Huynh in the parking lot of the Bayshore Mall. After a passenger fled from the vehicle during the traffic stop, Officer Huynh conducted a search of Mr. Vella’s truck that revealed two loaded firearms: a 9-mm semi-automatic handgun and a .44 magnum revolver. The vehicle’s glove box contained ammunition for the revolver. Additional evidence linked the firearms to the defendant.

At the time of the incident, Mr. Vella was on parole with the California State Department of Corrections following his release from prison in 2016. He had been in prison since his 1995 conviction in Humboldt County for voluntary manslaughter with a firearm. The defendant was also convicted of possessing a weapon while in prison.

The case has been referred to the Humboldt County Probation Department for a pre-sentencing report. Judge Kaleb Cockrum is scheduled to sentence the defendant on November 20, 2018.

Officer Huynh investigated the case with the assistance of EPD colleagues. Deputy District Attorney Brent Kling prosecuted the case.

I was wondering if maybe these guys are the ones who were trying to rob us Sunday morning October 21st 2018? We are in ukiah, and the sheriff’s department was called, the robbers ran, so the deputies decided to take it upon themselves to destroy our entire property! We have worked extremely hard and spent a lot of time and money getting legal and compliant for Nothing! Northern California legalization is a big, fat joke!!!

Voluntary manslaughter? Why is he out and about if he’s still dangerous to the general public?

Fuck California….. Denmark looks better every day, I fortunately am still trapped in the humboldt vortex which in turn is turning into a spiraling effect. Kinda like when you flush the toilet, but at the last minute it clogs and all the shit floats to the surface!

Really?

“The mood in Denmark has swung to law and order, though, in recent years. Urban housing projects have become the scene of increasing drug offenses and gang activity. And as anxiety rises, so does support for the anti-immigrant far right.

Mr. Pedersen, whose masters’ thesis was titled “We Have Time for a Cup of Coffee Before the Police Arrive,” said many drug dealers he met in Christiania had symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, like soldiers returning from a war. Some sleep with baseball bats beside their doors, or change their phone numbers regularly, or don’t use phones at all, he said.”
