Arcata Man Accused of Arson

This is a press release from the Arcata Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Arcata Police Square BadgeOn 10/21/2018 at about 1:05pm, officers with the Arcata Police Department were dispatched to the Intermodal Transit Facility (ITF), 925 E Street, on the report of a fire at that location.

It was determined that an unknown subject had lit someone’s personal property on fire that had been leaning against the public building.  Given that an uninvolved persons property was ignited and damage was sustained to the building, it was determined that an arson had occurred and an investigation was initiated.  An investigator viewed video surveillance at the transit facility and Arcata resident Brandon Jay Childers (age 28) was identified as the suspect.

On 10/22/2018 at about 3:50pm, officers were dispatched to ITF on the report that the suspect was back at the scene of the fire.  Childers was located a short distance away and taken into custody for the act of arson.

Childers was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked and lodged for PC 451(d) – Arson.

I chatted with a nice young man from the UK, whom had just got to town looking for work. He was looking for the public bathrooms and stumbled across this fire, he immediately called 911… He stuck around till the cops and fire trucks arrived. He was swiftly approached by an female officer, started demanding his name, date of birth and his reason for being near the seen. She was being very aggressive with him and he was quite intimidated… He kept explaining he was there because he saw smoke, and that he was the person who called in the fire trying to do the right thing. Poor kid got a lesson on trying do the right thing on the streets Arcata. From the pictures he took of the seen, it looked as if he saved the day with his quick action. Too bad he was treated like shit, AKA an arsonist, by the officers…

They always do that. Maybe they should have a coffee with the captains there every month or something.

I had a check of mine stolen, they cashed it in Arcata, 2 blocks from the police station. The cops wouldn’t do anything; was going to talk to the captain about it but figured I’d save it for something worse.

Sometimes going in and talking to the chief about it helps.

MEASURE ‘O’ DOES NOT HAVE A SUNSET CLAUSE LIKE THE LAST TIME. IT’S A PERMANENT TAX INCREASE.

Railroading an innocent for the appearance of job completion is a common thing in American law enforcement, its also common in the courts as well.District attorneys have fine tuned it into a art form(art for the ugly).
