[UPDATE 6:55 p.m.] Residence Fire in Hayfork Spread to Wildlands Before Being Contained

Burning structure

At approximately 1:30 p.m., a structure caught on fire between Hayfork and Peanut. Flames began spreading into the wildland. One report over the scanner stated there were ammunition exploding and concerns about a large nearby propane tank.

Hayfork Fire, Cal Fire and the US Forest Service along with at least one tanker and Copter 506 responded to the scene. By 3 p.m. firefighters had a line around the residence. The fire was contained and the aircraft was released.

UPDATE 6:25 p.m.: All firefighters have been released from the scene.

UPDATE 6:55 p.m.: Reader Kat Johnson tells us that she lives on a property adjoining the one the fire was on. She wrote us,

…the Hayfork/Peanut fire was on the parcel next to one of our parcels. The resident was cooking food on the back deck and it got out of control. The mobile and ramada burned to the ground. The fence between that property and our property burned hot enough to destroy both the wood fence on their side and the wire orchard fence on our side of the property line. The fire scorched the back of our well house. The fire fighters and sheriff thankfully were able to put it out and also put out a spot fire that had jumped between our garage and the highway from the blaze. Also thankfully everyone is okay.

Always a good idea to have a water bucket or fire extinguisher if you are BBQing on the porch or deck.

Yes. Some people don’t realize that just because it is cooler doesn’t mean we don’t still have fire conditions.
