There was a time we can harken back to, when even Eureka was flourishing. Everyone had seasonal jobs.. lumber, fishing, construction, art, music, tourism, etc.
The year round jobs were also plentiful. Bars, hospitals, mills, gas stations, trucking, desk jockey’s, retail sales…
The homes and businesses were gorgeous & well cared for. There was a church on every corner I swear. Everybody knew somebody who could help somebody. Sunday’s always were fun with potlucks and baseball games.
Today? Not so much. Today, imo, it’s depressed and ugly in comparison.

But, hey, there are clean needles. woohoo.

You need to get out of the house once in awhile and stop watching Sinclair Broadcasting’s Channel 23 News. Humboldt County is awesome, regardless of whether or not there’s a church (or Starbucks ☕️) on every corner.

And in yesterday news Warren has DNA proof that she is native American. Of course, the pathological liar Donald Trump is now refusing to pay one million dollars to Warren’s favorite charity that he promised he would do if Pocahontas Warren would submit to a DNA test. That claim is on video. And of course conservative Republicans are saying there isn’t enough Indian DNA to prove Warren has Native American blood. That is FAKE news. There are still thousands of Native Americans living in this country.

I hope she does run for President. She is not Narcissistic, a liar nor does she have delusions of grandeur like Trump has been evaluated and diagnosed by over 300 psychiatrists.

Dump Trump, indeed! 🏌️‍♂️🍄🚫

Benedict Donald will never pay up to charity for a variety of selfish reasons, one of which is that he’s basically broke and on an allowance currently from his Russian and Saudi paymasters, so Traitor Trump would have to go on bended knee begging for the money from either Vladimir Putin or Mohammed bin Salman. And since the midterm election is in just three weeks, that’s not a politically viable option for Trump the Chump at the present time.

You do realize that the DNA test confirmed that Elizabeth Warren is actually less Native American than the average white European is right? It in fact proved she is not Native American. Of course she and her staff and all the msm’s didn’t figure that one out until later in the day, until somebody with an IQ over 80 looked at the numbers. So I guess the story Warren made up that her granddaddy wouldn’t let her dad marry her mom because her mom was a Cherokee, was a lie.. Or do you believe being 1/1024 Native American qualifies you as being a Native American? and by Native American they meant any indigenous tribe in all of North America, not Just Cherokee.

You do of course realize that no one (other than FOX “News”, Trump & Warren) actually give a damn what Warren’s Native American blood quotient is. Not important, since (even though I like her & agree with her most of the time) there is virtually no chance anyone from Massachusetts (or Vermont for that matter) is going to win the Democratic Party presidential nomination in 2020. If the Democrats run another Caucasian candidate for president in 2020, they almost certainly won’t be from the Northeast or West Coast. The only possible exception I believe would be if Hillary decides to make another run after Trump’s Impeachment and removal/resignation in 2019 clears a potential path for her (so long as Biden doesn’t decide to run).

What is important for the purpose of the midterms just 3 weeks away is that Disgusting Donald can’t keep his extremely public pathetic misogyny in check not even for a few hours. Trump is a sick, woman-hating fascist freak! 💰🇸🇦🏌️‍♂️🇸🇦💰

All you need to know about rich boy Republican Anthony Mantova’s lack of intelligence is HE CHOSE to rent a building for his inherited business NEXT DOOR to the Eureka Rescue Mission, then has loudly complained about homeless citizens being in proximity to his place of business ever since. 🤪⁉️

It would be helpful to know a few more details, such as:
When did he rent it?
Why is there a homeless epidemic?
Why can’t a businessman choose an area that provides lower rent and higher chances of mingling with their constituents and still complain about the depth and scope of the issues that certain issues bring?

Why isn’t anyone talking about Caroline Brooks? Did she drop from the race? Why did she keep saying she’s an activist but never combines her personal activism with her politics? I admired her strong sense of character in the one video I saw.
Mandova was also strong that day in that same video. Not as strong as Brooks though. He even gave her a few admiring glances.

I hate politics.

I vote for whoever understands the constitution and their oath to preserve, protect and defend the constitution. The rest can go eat moth balls.

It sounds like either you’ve never actually been to Old Town Eureka or you are feigning ignorance of Mantova Music’s CHOSEN location in order to completely ignore an obvious and unavoidable point about Anthony’s self-caused dilemma, which no one else does by the way. The reaction to Mantova’s outrage about the homeless existing in “HIS” neighborhood in Eureka’s Ward 1 is laughter for the most part. What else would you expect? No one made Mantova Music move NEXT DOOR to the Eureka Rescue Mission, other than its owner Anthony Mantova that is. Cry some crocodile tears for Mantova if you must 😭, but no one who is actually familiar with Ward 1 will join you in that particularly pathetic endeavor.

Two street music is where we bought our 3 guitars back in the late 70’s early 80’s. Even though it was next to the Rescue Mission, the block wasn’t dangerous or creepy then like it is now. Back then it was just regular dangerous, as in being aware of your surroundings at all times, but easily enough to enjoy being a customer at a music store. I haven’t been to old town since the late 90’s after seeing what the main street is like now.
Times change.
Even so, I didn’t know the owner’s name, only that the clerks (probably the owner) were passionate & contagious about music. We went in for one guitar came out with 3.

Anyway, that’s not important. What’s important, is that I like how he is wise & caring enough to doubt the language used in the measure.
He seems approachable, easy to debate with, like a good listener is.
I really liked Caroline Brooks assertiveness, but to be honest, I wouldn’t feel comfortable (at this time) approaching her. I’ll need to see a few more video’s before making up my mind.
Like I said, those two nailed it for me.

You continue to make my point for me, sir or madame. You just said you haven’t set foot in Old Town Eureka FOR TWENTY YEARS! With your own personal admission in mind, feel free to stop pretending that you actually know what you’re talking about when it comes to Eureka’s 1st Ward. Most of us who have actually set foot in Eureka’s 1st Ward within the past 20 years have a VERY different opinion of this Eureka City Council contest than your admittedly uneducated and uninformed view on the subject.

When 2 st music opened, it was in the ‘rough’ part of town, the red light district, but with dedicated & committed townspeople like 2 st music, more and more businesses sprang up. Then the BOS decided to get grants to make old town look pretty in order to bring in even more businesses and consumers, while simultaneously over regulating and fining the old businesses out of pocket until they closed their doors.
They even took out the rest benches that consumers could rest on, because the homeless began to increase. Many of those homeless were ex employees of the businesses that were shut down, I imagine.
Old town became a political scene, not a community scene.
If they want our business back, they need to clean it up and give it back to the community.
Mantova seems to be in the know. I’d like to hear more of his input.
You never did say when Mantova rented or bought the store. Was it way back when or was it recently?

Arroyo, Bergel, Seaman, Messner and others support Measure K. In their responses they talked about offering opportunities to illegal aliens for employment and being contributing and honored members of our community. Not one supporter of K bothered with worrying about employment opportunities of locals, the wages they can get or the stability of employment. That says a lot about what respect and attention voters can expect from them. They are pompously concerned with a national agenda over which they have no authority while not caring a bit about local voters needs which they can do something about.

That’s a flat out lie! I watched the televised debates and actually got several of my questions asked of the candidates on KEET by the LWV, including questions about economic development, living wage jobs, etc. And the candidates whom you’ve named and are lying about had – by far – the most intelligent answers on those subjects!

Do you also believe everything Trump and the Saudi Royal Family tell you too? How about Putin & Kim Jong Un? You believe everything they say too, right?

My two cents:
That Caroline Brooks is logically strong and assertive. I like her.
Mantova came in second, and I’d like to see a follow up where he can go over the fine points of the measure with us. Political language is created for the sole purpose of sneaking in loopholes that citizens always dread later.
One other did okay, but I didn’t feel a strong commitment from them, for whatever reason.

Thanks for posting the link. You were right about the others not thinking things through, but instead just followed their what seemed to me to be their peer pressured hearts. They remind me of the FB posters who can’t live without their “like” count, and are completely oblivious to the millions who would have down voted but instead politely chose to ignore.

First impressions are sometimes spot on. I’ll trust mine.

Well trust this – Caroline Brooks will come in last place (4th place out of 4 candidates) in Eureka’s Ward 1 city council contest. You can take that one to the bank. Even Hailey Lamb will get more votes than Brooks. And as far as Anthony Mantova giving Brooks “admiring glances”, you completely misinterpreted those looks. Mantova was doing his best not to laugh out loud at Caroline’s ridiculous responses! And of course you probably are unaware of this, but Mantova asked Brooks to drop out of the race awhile back, since they are basically competing for the same part of the local electorate. 🐘

It’s funny how you rail about how rude and hate-filled Trump is. yet with every answer and reply you give to this post, to someone that has a different point of view than yours, you are rude and hateful towards them.. News flash, not everybody in this country has the same opinions, beliefs or points of view that you do. We all have different views, opinions and points of view. Being able to freely Express and have those views is what makes America great. Talking down to, being rude and trying to bully people into your point of view not only doesn’t work, but it’s supposedly the exact opposite of what you say you stand for, right? Nothing in this country is going to improve until everybody starts compromising a little bit. There are too many people in this country to share one point of view. I hope the one thing we can agree upon is that the rule of law should apply equally to everybody. There shouldn’t be a segments of the population whether or not there minorities, that are exempt from some laws While others aren’t.

Yes. But even in being totally unable to compromise on a point, it is possible to treat opponents with basic respect. People who only see dragging down and stomping out sincere opponents as success have restricted everything to one scenario- their opponents stomp in return to survive- to the detriment of all.
Everyone not passionately in one camp or the other is frozen out of participation.

I don’t vote for no stinking attorneys.
“The Founders held an intense disdain and distrust of “Nobility” as a result of a long history, during Colonial times, of abuses and excesses against the Rights of Man and the established Common Law and Constitutions by the “Nobility”, and therefore placed in the new Constitution two injunctions against acceptance of Titles of Nobility or Honor or emoluments from external sources. The Revolutionary War for Independence was primarily waged to eliminate these abuses and excesses of the “Nobility” and the “Monied Classes” from the life of the Nation, recognizing the Equality of all men.”

Knowing full well how most lawyers manipulate the law to suit their own needs, they put a prohibition on lawyers holding office. Notice how lawyers later came in and changed that amendment completely? Lesson learned.
