Truck Tumbles Spectacularly After Driver Misses Multiple Signs Warning His Vehicle Is Too Long for State Route 175 by Hopland
On Thursday, a fully loaded semi carrying plywood went past multiple signs warning that there were length restrictions on Hwy 175 near Hopland. A contractor crew building a retaining wall in the area filmed the resulting crash.
Caltrans posted the video on their Facebook page and we’ve embedded the whole post below.
Note that Caltrans reports that there will be a…
Full Closure of Route 175- from 5.6 miles east of US Highway 101 to Mathews Road in Lake County.
Monday, October 15- 7am to 7pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday, October 16 and 17- 8am to 4pm.
Full closure of Route 175 is needed for recovery of a semi-truck that went over the embankment on Thursday, October 11. The truck and trailer will be recovered on Monday and require special heavy equipment. Tuesday and Wednesday’s closure hours are shorter, from 8am to 4pm, to help accommodate commuter traffic. The truck’s load of plywood will be recovered on Tuesday and Wednesday.

this made national news
But Google maps said there was a road there!
That was a serious visual lesson.
Kneeland-Bridgeville Road.
Made it down to the first Larabee Bridge. 65′ Trailer.
Turned around, took out fences and signs.
Years ago saw a truck like that turn off hwy 36 on the Van duzen rd. In Mad river. Made it to Lost bridge where it damaged the bridge badly. It went on and turned around, came back thru hitting the same bridge again. CHP was called and eventually caught it at the bridge you show at the beginning of Kneeland rd…
It seems as if the both of these drivers are what I call Cracker Jack Drivers!!!! As in it seems as if they got their Driver’s licenses from a box/bag or whatever it comes in these daze, as the “Toy Surprise”!!!
There isnt such a thing as a 65 ft van trailer bozo. Its a 53 at best.
Yup, got a call from the boss yesterday, I’ll be there with the crew Monday morning to clean this damn mess up.. he was even warned by road crews on his way up there…. I guess he couldn’t be inconvenienced by a detour.
See why reading is important?
I hope the driver was okay. I’m sure he won’t soon forget this lesson!
this is why all road signage should be in every dilacit as well as any and all traffic and safety warning messages.
Eh? Or maybe a person should learn to read English before driving a truck.
After all the four wheel drivers start paying attention. Anybody who is not a truck driver should just stop right now and admit, you’ve never ever paid attention to a sign like that. If you want to see people get stupid, sit in an 18 wheeler, and put your turn signal on.
I bet a lot of four-wheel driver have never even read Dianetics, Charlotte’s Web or the release forms for sex reasignment surgery! Four-wheel peons are so uninformed! /s
WTF????!!!
That is the single stupidest comment in history. Drive past the warning signs on 175 and you have missed the last place to turn back! Keeping on up the hill: Just don’t go there in a rig…
Wow, that’s a very Christlike notion you have there.
christlike eh ? what does it say about judging ? or about addressing someones faults in public ? very christlike for sure !!!!!!!!
It says to judge correctly and for the right reasons. Way too many people quote the same small, out of context bit in smug criticism against those who do judge appropriately, which is exactly what warned against. It’s not that sinning is to go unjudged but no one should try to force others to judge as they want it against conscience. As in forcing people to bend their conscience to political correctness or go long with the mobs. Judgements are not to be made a political tool.
Sheer idiocy. Glad he or someone else wasn’t killed, but me made an expensive and easily avoidable mistake.
When all else fails, just SEND IT!
Oh my god, that ain’t no log truck.
Great footage, frightening.
He would of made it without the median divide, but common guy, 175 is not a trucking shortcut.
Whatever company encouraged this guy to run 175 should be charged for the public inconvenience of the closed route
Truckers make choices too. There have times I have warned the drivers of big trucks that coming to Eureka was not to be taken lightly. Most listened- a few did not.
Sure, blame everyone but the idiot actually responsible. Typical…
How do you know it was a guy driving? Could have been a gal!
I think this driver is fired. 175 is dangerous on a good day, but there is a squeeze down to less than one lane up there, and people who think they can make it in a giant motorhome or a rig, wow, the fine just couldn’t be large enough…
I am going to file this away under the ”Don’t Do This!” category for my own self.
I’m not always the brightest bulb in the package and I’ve certainly made more than a few mistakes in my life but this looks about as stupid as stupid can be.
We need stiffer penalties for this.
El stupido trucker!
Wish I had seen the vid – but t I’m not finding a Facebook Post embedded anywhere.
Is this because I don’t have a Facebook presence any more?

Thanks.
I resisted for a while but what I wanted to say when I watched this was, “Dumb muttha truckah!”
What was he thinking, ignoring the signs? I’d have thought twice taking that road in my Subaru!
Ignoring signs is a favorite pastime for a lot of truckers. Makes for good bragging when you make it. However, the ones that make it or return safely are the ones who have enough experience to know which side of the truck to watch. The off road haulers up here call ’em flatlanders. One thing for sure; this guy won’t be slinging any bullshit excuses.
Plenty of CHP on that road, as well. I have personally seen rigs pulled over, and some RV’s as well. Don’t go up there in a large or overly long machine. From Ukiah, it’s an hour to my house, but over 175, it takes 60 minutes….
I usually have problems with facebook content too… But oddly enough, today the embedded video works, but your link above does not.
Both work for me…Why do the interwebs hate us…?
If you go to FB and search Caltrans Hopland, a few sites with the video will come up.
Yeah, this video above worked for me an hour or two ago, but now says it’s unavailable.
Still working for me, Laura. But use the link above if the embedded video is problematic.
Thank you, Kym. It’s showing up again in your original post now.
That plywood was needed to board up foreclosed marijuana growers old homes.
Critical freight lost for a crucial job needing to be done.
fine job,,,,young man did a fine job,,full on graduate of the Ray Charles school of driving ,,,fine job !!!!!!!
U Pick plywood for $5/sheet to help pay for the recovery costs.
I wonder how the driver turned put tumbling around inside the truck cab?
