Two Hundred Acre Prescribed Burn Ongoing in Ettersburg Today

Prescribed Burn

What:Professionally controlled prescribed burn planned to remove brush and grass.When: The prescribed burn will take place as conditions allow, on Friday, September 28, 2018. This project is expected to be completed in one day.

Where: Area of Ettersburg, CA (200 acres)

Why: These burns are part of the prescribed fire program for vegetative management and hazardous fire fuels reduction. This treatment will help to enhance the health of the native plant communities, aid in the control of non-native plant species, protect and enhance prairie habitat for animal species, aid in the reduction and control of uncontrolled wildfire.

Who: CAL FIRE, private stakeholders. During these prescribed fire operations, residents may see an increase in fire suppression resource traffic, smoke will be visible and traffic control may be in place. Please be cautious for your safety as well as those working on the prescribed burns. Residents are reminded that there is an outdoor burn suspension in effect due to the threat of wildfire. Only in these types of situations Cal Fire likes to burn it but they are definitely careful not to inhale .
Particulate matter can cause C.O.P.D.
Only the professional firefighters can pull this off.

why didn’t the do this burn EARLY in the am everyone knows wind picks up later in the day and controlled burns do get out of hand during summer days!! ugh!

There was plenty of hands on board with engines,water tender, dozer, hand crews, etc. Training exercises for fire crews is a good expenditure of tax dollars as far as I’m concerned.

The whole west side needs a real good understory burn.
