Firefighters rescued a woman with a fractured ankle at Devil’s Elbow swimming hole on the Trinity River. According Nathan Falk, the Willow Creek Fire Chief, his crew were dispatched
about 3:30 p.m. to around mile marker 4 on Hwy 96.

“The crews made it to near where the patient was and realized they were going to have to hoist her with ropes,” Falk said. “They also requested assistance from a US Forest Service crew for more personnel…The [Incident Commander] ordered Salyer Fire’s hovercraft and the CHP helicopter with lift capabilities just in case.”

Falk explained, “Crews were able to get her up to the ambulance with the ropes.” The hovercraft and the helicopter were cancelled.

The patient was taken to the hospital by Hoopa Ambulance.
