Defendants Plead Guilty for Roles in Fatal Stabbing of 14-Year-Old Jesus Garcia-Romero

This is a press release from the Office of the District Attorney:

[Left to Right: Joe Olivo Jr., Joe Daniel Olivo III, Mario Nunez]

Today, 39-year-old Joe Olivo Jr. and 32-year-old Mario Nunez pled guilty to charges of voluntary manslaughter committed in furtherance of a criminal gang. Both defendants will be sentenced on September 17, 2018, to 16 years in state prison.  Twenty-year-old Joe Olivo III, a minor at the time of the incident, pled guilty to charges of voluntary manslaughter with personal use of a knife. He will be sentenced on October 4, 2018, to serve up to 12 years in prison.

These convictions hold the three defendants accountable for their roles in the death of 14-year-old Jesus Garcia-Romero, who was fatally stabbed on the night of December 16, 2014, in an apartment in the 700 block of P Street in Eureka.

So they get out on half-time? For killing a 14 year old?! WTF happened to the death penalty?! Some cases really do deserve it.

How come its not a murder charge? Just because the kid didn’t die on the spot doesn’t mean that they didn’t kill him.

They all look hella creepy, glad they’re going where they belong. We need much stronger murder laws, there’s lots more just like these that need to be taken off Humboldt’s streets for a long time. Maybe if they get out at 50 or 60 years old they’ll be calmed down. If we were a smart society, any gang homicide involvement would bring a life sentence for the first offence.

16 years for being involved in killing someone, wtf. Other states it would be life. One thing for sure here, do not send the crew back to Mexico for time, no bail out. Praying for our criminal justice system. Thank you Trump this is exactly why I will vote for you again. Clean it up!

Didn’t the young guy just pick up fresh charges in jail? A weapon and threatening an officer or something?

He looks sad. The other two look like this is about par and in or out of jail is the same to them. The kid, though. Looks like he just realized he’s not going to have a life, not now. He’s stuck in a game he’d only intended to play for a while, maybe make some money and then break free…
If he’s acting out, I understand why. Not a lot of patience with it, but some understanding, at least. Might have been an attempted “suicide by cop”. Look at his face…
And no this isn’t a suggestion he not have to account for his choices. Karma’s a bitch and she will always bite you.

If I’m not mistaken, the 14 year old victim was dumped on a lawn and bled to death all night. It was cold and raining. He was still alive when the sun came up and a passerby noticed him and called for help. The alleged reason he was murdered was because he told some people that the guy who killed him asked to be placed in protective custody while in juvenile detention. It’s horrifying to live in a world and a town where human beings think torturing a kid to death is an appropriate response to spreading a rumor. Does killing him somehow prove it wasn’t true?

They just came here to work and for a better life. But then whitey discriminated against them so they were forced into a life of crime. Diversity is our strength. If you don’t believe that you’re a fascist.
