At approximately 11 a.m., emergency personnel received a report of a 57-year-old woman with a broken leg under the Bear Canyon Bridge near Garberville. Multiple agencies responded including Cal Fire, Garberville Fire, an inmate crew, Fortuna Ambulance, and Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue.

According to Thomas Norris, spokesperson for Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue, “We all staged on the river bar. We set up a rope haul system to bring the patient down…Then we had to hike up about 50 or 60 feet…We assisted Cal Fire in helping bring the woman down on a Stokes basket.”

Norris said that the woman was taken to Jerold Phelps Hospital for treatment.
