Caltrans Extends Road Opening Hours for Hwy 299

Press release from Caltrans District 2:

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 2 is extending road openings hours for State Route 299 between Redding and Weaverville, effective on Tuesday, August 14 at 6:00 P.M.

On Tuesday (08/14) and Wednesday (08/15) the Noon to 1:30 P.M. schedule remains the same while the overnight 6:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M. schedule will be 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 A.M. next morning.

Beginning on Thursday, August 16, 2018, Construction activities will continue, the traveling public will have through access under one-way traffic control when the contractor deems it necessary with five important items to be extremely cautious about:

The emergency contractor and subcontractors will be working on State Route 299 Monday through Saturday from 6:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. at spot locations. Traffic control operations will be in place at these various locations, requiring vehicles to stop, slow down, and follow a pilot car.

Fire responders and utility vehicles continue having priority access as fire containment continues and repairing damaged areas require quick vehicle access.

The California Highway Patrol will have a strong presence to ensure people drive safely and for other public safety issues.

With some exceptions, crews will be off on Sundays but the need to slow down and drive carefully still applies.

The traveling public will encounter regulatory, advisory and construction signs indicating speed limits. The signs may be on barricades.

FIRE RESPONDERS AND SUPPORTERS CONTINUE TO HAVE A STRONG NEED FOR ROAD ACCESS. PLEASE USE CAUTION.

Caltrans and the other agencies involved continue making a call for safety, asking the public to be extremely cautious when driving through this area whether construction crews and other operations are visible or not. Please turn your cell phone off and avoid other distractions. Do not stop in areas affected by the fire at any time. Watch for trucks coming in from side roads. Be respectful to flaggers coordinating traffic.
