SoHum Chamber’s Featured Business of the Week: Miranda Gardens Resort

Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce

Every week the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce features a business of the week. We’ll be sharing their posts here to celebrate our community.

This week’s featured “business of the week” is Miranda Gardens Resort!

Miranda Gardens Resort was first established in the late 1920’s and has been popularly well known for the history it holds within the small town of Miranda.  Phil Eldridge bought the resort back in November of 1977 and his daughter Kathy Eldridge has been working hard ever since to keep the history sacred, all the while continuing to add to this unique retreat!

Nestled amongst the redwoods on the south end of the Avenue of the Giants, there are currently 16 cute and cozy built cabins all different in size and occupancy! Each cabin has original redwood with antiques that match perfectly, and all of their cabins have been updated creating a fun and friendly atmosphere for all!

The lobby was once made up of all old growth redwood, until a big tree fell right through it, doing severe structural damage to that part of the building.  The lobby has since been beautifully repaired and continues to stand strong today, welcoming travelers from all over the world!

Locally owned and operated by the Eldridge’s for the past 44 years, the resort is not the only thing the owners take great pride in around here!  Nobody knows this resort quite like Jackie, their trusted and beloved employee!  Jackie has been working at Miranda Gardens Resort for 48 long years, and “came with the territory” she states!  Jackie became a “jack of all trades” in her years working here, doing anything from cleaning rooms, running the Miranda Market next door and now runs the lobby.  She most enjoys greeting guests and loves talking about the true history of the resort.  Potential guests often call her up and ask, “Are you in the redwoods”?  Jackie replies with a joyful voice, “You can step out of your rooms and hug a tree”.  Guests absolutely love that they can be so close to nature and seem to fall in love with the resort after their first trip here!

The staff here takes great pride in the fact that they have guests come from all over traveling to stay with them year after year and they continue to have repeat business.  Hospitality is their number one priority and everyone adores Jackie’s charming soul the moment they meet her!

This hidden gem surrounded by majestic redwoods offers a continental breakfast for their guests, a swimming pool for those hot summer days, a campfire just perfect for storytelling and roasting marsh mallows, a playground area for children, basketball hoop to brush up on your skills and a ping pong table for those that love a challenge!

Miranda Gardens Resort is the perfect place to have a family reunion, a wedding, a club retreat and even a birthday bash!  The Ford Car Club is just one club that comes year after year and will be returning this upcoming year on October 5th & 6th!

If you are searching for the perfect spot somewhere nestled beneath our big redwood trees, stop on by Miranda Gardens Resort and talk with Jackie, their “Jack of all trades”!

Thank you Miranda Gardens Resort for creating such a beautiful place for all to enjoy, we are lucky to have you in the community!

We would also like to say a special thank you to Jackie for all of her hard work and dedication over the last 48 years at this resort!  We were sad to learn this will be her last year here, but we sure hope she enjoys her next adventure!

Congratulations for being the business of the week. Pleased to see a business from my old home town being picked by the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce. Lived there from age 2 to graduation at South Fork High in 1966. Was sorry to see the Miranda Market close. You have a beautiful spot. Keep up the great work!

The Miranda Market didn’t exactly close. It moved to over by the Post Office.

Kim, The old Miranda Market did close. The new market is just not the same as the old one. If I don’t know, then no one does.

I hope this doesn’t seem like heresy but I love the new iteration of the market, too.

I am just sorry to see the old times changing. Have a bucket full of wonderful memories from the store. I know life goes on, but I don’t care to catch up.

Jackie is indeed a treasure. I heard she was moving to Oregon. If true, I wish her well. She will be missed.😊💖
