Richard Philip (Bert) Henderson: Share a Cat Meme in Bert’s Honor

This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected].

Richard PhillipRichard Philip (Bert) Henderson’s journey on this planet began November 23, 1950, and ended on July 1, 2018, in St. George, Utah. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico-the middle son of Walter and Louise Henderson. He inherited his mother’s creative spirit and became a prolific artist in numerous mediums. (The last medium being goofy kitty memes.)

Bert attended West Point after graduating from Livermore High School. He majored in art at San Francisco State and Humboldt State Colleges. He returned to Humboldt County in 1979 where he later earned another degree, adding teaching credentials to his resume. He was employed for a time by Eureka City Schools.

As a youth Bert excelled at sports and music. He played numerous instruments and sang with a traveling religious group. He often spoke of singing solos (“so-low you couldn’t hear me”) because he also relished stupid puns.

He met his future wife Teresa at an Easter egg coloring contest at her home in Eureka. His egg won “Best in Show” so you can see why they married. Richard PhillipBert’s artistic talent included the mediums of stained glass, watercolor, oil, acrylic, and duct tape. Sometimes small sporting equipment and condiments were involved. His work still enhances many homes and businesses throughout the area

Bert lived in Humboldt County for over 30 years and made many friends in the commercial construction and decorating trades. He valued his time at Bob Johnson’s and the Arcata Color Center. His sons: Tyler Henderson of Benbow, CA, and Sam Henderson of St. George, UT miss him dearly. Bert is also survived by two glorious granddaughter: Chloe White-Henderson of Ferndale, CA, and Sophie Henderson of Eureka, CA, brothers Walter Henderson, Don Henderson, Robert Henderson, Thom Henderson, nephew Matt and niece Lisa.

There are currently no formal services scheduled but if you want to honor Bert’s memory please take a few moments to find kitty memes on the internet. Share the ones that make you smile.Richard Phillip
