North Coast People’s Alliance Endorses Leslie Castellano for Ward 1 Eureka City Council Seat

This is a press release from the North Coast People’s Alliance:

The North Coast People’s Alliance has endorsed Leslie Castellano for the Ward 1 Eureka City Council seat.

“Leslie has pledged to work hard for a fairer, more inclusive Eureka that treats all of its residents with respect,” said Tamara McFarland, chair of the NCPA Steering Committee. ‘We are impressed with her background, values and plans for the city.”

Castellano, the director of Synapsis performance space, has lived and worked in Eureka for most of the past 14 years. She works for Trajectory, a career development program for artists from a variety of backgrounds, and is the board vice president of the Ink People, a community arts organization.

Castellano has written grants for free art programs for at-risk populations, an accessible dance program, a neighborhood street festival and creating a community mapping project. NCPA appreciates her background as a businesswoman and teacher, because caring for people and building community have been at the core of her work.

“Businesses flourish when the whole community flourishes,” Castellano said. “I value Eureka’s economy, and I recognize that a government must attend to many components of society.”

Castellano’s platform includes plans for creating more opportunities for local youth, and it calls for forward-thinking policies concerning community safety and housing.

“I will work toward greater environmental sustainability, vibrant arts and culture, and cooperative economic models,” she said. “Participation, creative thinking, hard work, and community are core values threaded throughout my campaign and my public service work.”

Voters can learn more about Castellano on her website, www.leslieforeureka.com, and on her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Leslie-Castellano-for-City-Council-2018-261023937987022. She can be reached at [email protected].

The North Coast People’s Alliance is a multi-partisan group that advocates for economic justice, social justice and environmental justice, and helps everyday people get more engaged civic institutions. Since 2016, NCPA has endorsed five candidates in three different local election campaigns in Humboldt County, most recently supporting Steve Madrone for county supervisor. All five won.

NCPA expects to review more endorsement applications during its next general meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Labor Temple, 840 E. St., Eureka. Candidates who share the values of social, environmental and economic justice, and who pledge to abide by NCPA’s “People Funded, Corporate Free” policy of declining financial contributions from business, are eligible to apply.

More information is available on the NCPA website at www.northcoastpeoplesalliance.org, with endorsement details and applications at http://northcoastpeoplesalliance.org/index.php/civic-engagement.

No more progressive socialists please. Get some people who understand economics, and help logging come back to save our economy. Denise Boggs, a real asshole, who works for the Center for Biological Diversity, is directly responsible for these forests burning out of control, and hurting so many. Progessives suck.

NCPA must provide pretty good info on their candidates opponent if all 5 endorsed have won, better than a Russian connection, staying local for inside info is always better.

In what business was this ‘businesswoman’ involved. By the way, writing grants isn’t business, it’s the appropriation of taxpayer dollars to fund personal, pet projects without the approval of the people picking up the tab.

A business where penalties for poor judgement are never personal? Always a sign of people free with other people’s money.

great i wanted to have a puppet show for the homeless and a free art program for how did you put it for at-risk populations. and this makes her qualified why? i want to know what her experience is working with the police , her education. documented experience dealing with the homeless, crime, drugs , new pot laws, medical care, housing, jobs. giving all this free stuff away to dead beats doent get my vote. what about immigration. the environment problems, and so on. i dont care if the at risk population have free dance lessons.

Is Hailey Lamb qualified? And by “qualified”, I’m not talking about her physical measurements, you Greedy Old Perverts (G.O.P.) 🏌️‍♂️🐘😘😛🐷🖕🏿🇷🇺💰

Leslie Castellano is the most qualified candidate in that ward, and she is going to win. And Anthony Mantova will cry. 😭

If you knew Leslie, you would “dig” her. She is one of the nicest, most caring and compassionate people in this community. She would be an outstanding addition to Eureka’s City Council.

Have her go help nincompoops abroad. We don’t have to feel sorry for people all the time.
We live in the fourth largest economy on earth.

Hmmmmm…..

Communism through art, huh?

Eureka may be blessed with some North Korean style monuments to The People’s Struggles, bills that will fit very nicely into car tab notices and tax levies.

Not one step back, Comrades, not one step….
