Eureka Invites You to Honor Coast Guard for ‘Contributions to the Welfare of Our Community’

This is a press release from the City of Eureka:

City of EurekaJune 3, 2000, Eureka was officially designated the second United States Coast Guard City in the Country. During that time the City has celebrated US Coast Guard Month every August, to honor the men and women who serve in this branch of the armed forces. The Coast Guard was founded on August 4, 1790, and has a long and rich history of service to Humboldt Bay, and the City of Eureka, dating back to 1856.

This year the City of Eureka, in order to recognize and thank the men, women and families of the Coast Guard for their many contributions to the welfare of our community, has planned a number of events and activities, and the public is invited to attend.

Thursday, August 2nd Coast Guard Day at Sequoia Park Zoo, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Summer Concert Series 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Madaket Plaza, foot of C St.

Friday, August 3rd Coast Guard vs Eureka Police Softball and BBQ, 12 p.m., Kennedy Fields Friday Night Market 5 p.m.-8 p.m., Clarke Plaza and E, 2nd and 3rd Sts.

Saturday, August 4th Coast Guard Plaza Dedication 3 p.m., at the foot of F St. First Saturday Night Arts Alive 6 p.m.-9 p.m., throughout Downtown and Old Town

Tuesday, August 7th Coast Guard Proclamation Acceptance 6 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 531 K St.

Saturday, August 11th, Coast Guard Open House 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., US Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay, 200 New Navy Base Road, Samoa
