The Fortuna Police Department presented a certificate of Recognition to one of its long time police volunteers, Ruben Rios, at tonight’s City Council meeting.

Rios tendered his retirement with the department earlier this month, after serving as a dedicated volunteer for the past seventeen years.

According to Police Chief Bill Dobberstein, “Ruben has conducted hundreds of volunteer shifts over his long career as a volunteer, serving as the extra eyes and ears in our community for the department.”

Dobberstein explained that Rios has served at countless community events including performing such duties as traffic control, conducting vacation house checks, and translation services.

He says that Rios has been a dedicated and caring volunteer who has rendered a valuable service to the Police Department and our community over these many years.  Dobberstein added that Rios will be missed by all who worked with him.

Rios said that he couldn’t think of a better group of people to have served with than those of the City of Fortuna

Why on earth wait 17 years before giving a volunteer some recognition?
