Fortuna Police are searching for a man who allegedly choked a woman unconscious today in the 2700 block of Highland Drive in Campton Heights area. According to Lt. Matt Eberhardt of the Fortuna Police, about 10:29 a.m., law enforcement received a report of a suicidal man at a residence in that area.

When officers met with the woman who reported the incident, she told that she had been choked unconscious by the man who she lived with. Then when she recovered and spoke to the man about what occurred, he threatened suicide.

The woman was eventually able to flee the scene and contact law enforcement. “[The woman] was initially seen by medical but refused transport,” Eberhardt explained.

Officers later learned the man had fled on foot from the couple’s home. “The [woman] believed he had a knife but did not witness the knife,” Eberhardt said.

Fortuna Police have issued a BOLO for a suspect–a white male adult, age 49, who is 5′ 11″ and weighs approximately 275-300 pounds. He has a shaved head and blue eyes. The man, the BOLO gives his name as James Edward Shinn, was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

They are looking to charge him with PC 273.5 (domestic violence) and PC 245 (A)(1) (assault likely to cause great bodily injury.)

The Bolo is embedded below.

Eberhardt asked, if the suspect is observed, please call Fortuna Police at (707) 725-7550. “We are continuing to look for him,” he said.
