A wildfire that started southeast of Douglas City in Trinity County yesterday about 6 p.m. had reached 150 acres according to Cal Fire by around 9 p.m. The fire continued to expand overnight and is now estimated to be 300 acres burning in timber, with 0% contained. The blaze is threatening structures and has a potential for long-range spotting.

The fire is burning in a rough and steep area which is critically dry and has had no recent fires. It is in a remote area that is difficult to access.

Temperatures are expected to be in the nineties today but to grow to over a 100 on Saturday and Sunday. Humidity is expected to be mostly under 20 percent. Gusty north winds are expected in the area.

Ummm air support? There is a lake and a airport right next to this fire. come on!

Takes a LOT of aircraft to knock a wind and terrain driven fire. Buckets of water only slow it down for ground personnel. Let’s go hotshots

Inversion has set in already. I doubt youll see air support, unfortunately.

Fortunately, inversions also help keep the fire more tame.

The plume this morning was pretty minor, if they got a big hand crew I’m sure they’ll keep all the structures safe. And I’m sure more forest will burn.

Those red marks on the ground are from fire retardant drops.

Retardant was dropped Thursday into the night up until about 8:45 pm.

Today, Friday, an inversion had set in the morning but is now starting to lift. If it does lift, you’ll see some air support today.

Coffee Creek is 100 mikes from there. This fire is south of hwy. 299 near that part of hwy 3 and hwy 36. Shouldnt affect Coffee Creek at all…

Just saw a Sikorsky helicopter leave Medford airport. Fingers crossed it’s heading to Trinity.

Many fires in Nor Cal right now. Fires near Weed and Redding, Clear Lake, and this one near Douglas City.

Looks like your to the north a ridge over. I’m watching from many more miles away than you but I thought it was looking pretty OK.

To me it looks like they’ve surrounded the downslopes with retardant. Though a finger of that fire is slowly crawling down the drainage nearest you. It seems the choppers and planes are on full attack.

Hope the best 4 ya all out there.

Do you know of any live scanners to listen to info on this fire?

I don’t think any scanners online cover trinity Co.

Kym, or someone else (maybe Ullr Rover) may know for sure.

When I was out there at 1pm(pics above) I felt like we were going to hear of good containment by the end of the night. It really doesn’t seem like it grew a ton.

However, I am just an observer, and not a fire professional.

Kym, you do a great job but I will need to be traveling back and forth from the valley next week and the following. Do you know if there is a site dedicated to traffic and roads that can be checked on hourly or daily?
