Pearl Ilene Brooks: Her Heavenly wings were ready, but our hearts were not
This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected].
Her Heavenly wings were ready,
but our hearts were not
Pearl Ilene Brooks was born June 26, 1939 and earned her heavenly wings on June 22, 2018, just 4 days shy of her 79th birthday.
Pearl was married to her husband John for 61 years and worked hard her entire life doing jobs many men could not do. She was a true pioneer woman who endured 18 surgeries due to life’s hardships, starting at age 4. She baked bread from scratch and made a full course meal every night and nurtured wild animals back to health. She sewed clothes for her family and loved her years of crafting and attending craft shows while also being the local Avon lady.
Truly the strongest woman ever and the matriarch of the Brooks family, Pearl rarely complained and many never knew her long and hard fight with COPD, chronic back pain, congestive heart failure, kidney failure and cancer. She fought so long and hard to recover so she could continue to care for her family, but God had greater plans and set her free from her pain and suffering.
She will be so terribly missed; our hearts will never be the same. The tears shed for this woman could fill Ruth Lake, an area Pearl called home for 53 years.
Pearl is survived by her husband John Brooks, children Susan Pryor and her partner Dave Terry; John Brooks and wife Erica; grandchildren Justin Pryor and his partner Jenna; Miranda Brooks Lemke and her husband Daniel; John Brooks and wife Tasha; Makhila Downs and husband Shayne; Dakota Brooks and his partner Hailee. Great-grandchildren Kellan, Kinzley and Korbyn Brooks, Kaden and Bristol Brooks, Addilyn and Madisyn Downs, Elizabeth and Vito Lemke, Aiden Foreman (Pryor) and baby on the way Pryor. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, infant daughter Annie and oldest son Don.
Pearl is also survived by so many other family members and friends who were there for her with their prayers, blessings and presence which meant so much to the family.
A small gathering will take place at a later date at Sunrise Cemetery in Fortuna.

Pearl looks like somebody wonderful to hug in that picture. RIP
So sorry to hear Pearl passed away. She was a neighbor and friend to myself and my husband for 37 years. Rest In Peace…. Our condolences, Lyle & Norma Johnson
A sweet and wonderful lady. Will be sorely missed in this community. Prayers and gentle hugs to the family.
Grandma and I were so much more alike than I thought. I absloutley loved picking her brain, I would learn something new every time I spoke to her. I’m sure my dad (Don Kerman Brooks 1957-2017) gave her a humongous hug when she got there. <3
We are feeling sad. Thinking of you and sending light and love your way. Michael and Rachel
A truly lovely lady We will miss her so. Prayers to the family

To Susan, Justin, John, Erica, Dakota, and the rest of the family: I am so very sorry for your loss. I have the pleasure of knowing you even though I didn’t know Pearl. But through knowing you and the good people you are I can know quite a bit about the kind of mother she was. May your memories of her be the best and you feel her love around you always.
So sorry to hear of her passing. She was such a wonderful person and so glad I got to know her and all her many crafts at the Ruth Lake Summer Festival. May the family find comfort at this difficult time. RIP dear Pearl.
