[UPDATE: Project Loon!] Mysterious Orbs of Light Floating in Northern Mendocino Startle Residents
We have received reports from Red Mountain near Leggett to Piercy.
We’re crowdsourcing this. Does anyone have any ideas on what these could be?
UPDATE 12:58 p.m.: MendocinoSportsPlus (follow on Facebook for news in Mendocino) says this is Google’s attempt to provide internet through Project Loon.
You can track them via Flight Tracker.

aliens
I hope it’s non-terrestrial life
Since the earth map really looks like this they could just be from beyond the ice wall we call Antarctica…
Having only the photo to base theories upon, I’d say they’re cloud wisps. I observed two similar wisps hanging in an otherwise clear blue sky two days ago on the way to Medford. Just a little random moisture.
Not a chance. Seen through binoculars they have a clearly defined round shape with high reflectivity, esp upper rim of orb. A homemade ballon would move more quickly from sight. These moved so slowly as to seem stationary.
We also got a visual at 1pm on something I’m seeing again right now on the flight tracker. Two planes stacked as if refueling seem to be hanging near the ballons. Flight Tracker has no ID on the plane(s).
I saw the plane (planes), as well. The one in front appeared grey, the back one slightly larger and white. Zero contrail, but could hear it. Curious about what that is, and if anyone got a photo.
It looks like It’s probably one of those home made hot air balloons or lanterns.
Google’s project Loon balloons? ” The project uses high-altitude balloons placed in the stratosphere at an altitude of about 18 km (11 mi) to create an aerial wireless network with up to 4G-LTE speeds.”
I saw one of these last year in the eastern US. At the right time of day it looked like a fireball or super shiny thing floating slowly across the sky.
You can track them on flightradar. Shows three high altitude balloons
Thank you. I should have thought of that and have updated the post.
Great no escape from wifi signals? F*ck that!!! Who owns the sky???
Not you
Saw the same thing last week in Shasta county just outside Redding. My mom also saw it with me.
I can see two of them due north of me, six miles NE of Laytonville. Can’t get a good photo, but they appear to be spherical through binoculars. They are moving east slowly.
Get your tinfoil caps on folks!
quick , cover the crops
its sheriffs new high resolution camera mapping the area for the next raid
Decent internet service at a reasonable rate would certainly be nice!!! $70 / month for 10 gigs at supposedly faster than a DSL is not so great!!!
I only pay $55 for 10 gigs, plus $1 for each additional.
Can seen something white in sky from Laytonville ca. towards the spyrock area.
Looks like their flight path originated offshore of San Francisco. Hopefully, they’re not high altitude emp delivery balloons (HEMP – no pun intended).

They’re visible from AP now (2:20).
I am getting ATS-B signal from 3 of them now. But not showing them sending any LTE signal on band 20. I can’t find the FCC info for them. HBAL183, HBAL191, HBAL187
There was one to the north of Heartwood about an hour ago
They were out Branscomb over Jack of Hearts almost all day. They are in a triangle shape and moving east. They do look like a balloon through a telescope but there are three of them moving in a triangle pattern east. Very odd, like there following a grid or course but staying in a perfect triangle.
Definitely aliens…and I plan to leave with them.
“Startled!” Us clever apes are easily startled by shiny things.
There’s one just east of Ruth Lake at the moment.
Where’s Guest when you need him?
Maybe the “Aliens” took them???!!!
Why ask when You already know:)
Beam me up scotty please !!!!!!
Google does mapping grids for future programs to be used globally…world domination stuff. The app. will be available not soon.Yes, this could be fake news but my son seems to appreciate this news. Have you ever heard of the game Ingress? It collects location info.
Ingress maps and location info became the map basis for Pokemon Go.
Buwoons
Thays them googl balloons.
They are over Battle Mountain, NV and north of Elko right now.
I’m not really comfortable with the idea of hundreds or thousands of the these (bal)loons in constant drift around earth… cheap and fast Internet or not.
Here
Here
I’ll try again…
Fire in the sky man!!!
Saw one of these above Shelter Cove a couple of months ago. Glad the mystery is solved.
8/10/18 apparently one tonight visible to the north from here (Buck Mtn) before dark. Bright!
^8/11/18 perhaps?
Saw one Saturday afternoon from Arcata
A parade of balloons?
