Not again! Hope CDF will be able to stop the fire before it turns into a monster. Praying for all the fire fighters and folks who live there. Be safe everyone.
lots of ash fallout in the yard including half burned oak leaves
stay safe everyone
Dear me, that’s pretty scary. I hope you remain safe.
That is very scary. I hope you remain safe.
highway 20 is open
its new long valley road at highway 20 thats closed
Are you sure? I have a relative coming through there tomorrow.
Have you gone through because both CHP and Quickmap which is based on the CHP site are stating that it is State Route 20 closed at New Long Valley Road. Not the other way around. That’s why I put the screencapture up to show that the blockade shows on 20 not on the other.
Kym could you see why Cal Fire doesn’t put out maps of fires anymore. I would think that would be most helpful to persons in the area of fires.
Thank You
It takes them a while to get the data to make the maps, most resources are probably tied up in initial attack still. Once they start bringing in overhead resources and start doing IR flights the maps will come.
http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi?roadnumber=20&submit=Search traffic cam half a mile from there on hwy 20 in district 1 has no backup , no road blocks at highway 53 and 20 . screen shot is from caltrans site i posted and says hwy 20 no restrictions in northern calif.
fire is out new long valley road , spring valley is out new long valley road , no fire on hwy 20
District 1 is bad about updating on the weekend but the traffic cam’s are good evidence they are open. I’ll note this in the post.
you have the best info of anyplace online .
sometimes a glitch but still the best anywhere
thanks and keep up the exceptional work
i rely lots on what you post
Thank you.
My wife just passed through from i5 and is driving around the lake now.. the 20 is open
I’ll post the pics once they come through
it was a video but it won’t let me post it.. however they seem to moving pretty good..
Thank you. My site won’t take video but your response and video are helpful.
Thank you.
I5 and 20 around 10am
Or you could report on Humboldt. Lake County -?? How about Alameda?
Or…you could not read articles that don’t interest you? This interested a number of readers. It is currently my most popular story. I have a pretty good idea of what my readers want. You just happen to be a particularly hard to please one. I’ve wondered a few times why you keep coming back since you seem so unhappy.
Kym
I suspect that your reporting about fires has saved lives. As a former firefighter I know that some of the best fire information comes from services such as yours. People communicate vital fire information to the public through your site. People are certainly grateful to you, as I’m sure that you know.
If you only save one person’s life, no matter where it is, I’m sure that that person would be forever grateful to you. I have friends and relatives that live in that area, as many of us have. I KNOW that your site has the best information that is available to them.
As an old firefighter I thank you, and your fire reporting, from the bottom of my heart.
Ernie
Awesome response, Ernie! Kym does an excellent job! Thanks, Kym!
Who cares about Alameda. Kym does an amazing job. Go troll somewhere else.
Hey stormy, how bout you just relax and enjoy the warm weather since you seem to be anxiously waiting for news just solely about humboldt on your computer or phone?
You don’t have to be so negative. Your comment contributes nothing.
Kym, thank you for the updates and news. We live in Mendo and have my parents driving back through the 20 today. Fires in Redding too😬
So adding a bit more negativity fixed it?
What does your comment contribute to the article “anti troll league” lmao
Anyways… hwy 20 is still open as of 3:30
Make your own blog and do it yourself Stormy. The rest of us don’t mind. Why? Because if you’re needing 20 to be open so you can avoid the Bay Area and 299 is too far the other direction, it’s quite handy for various places to report on regional conditions of quickly changing events.
Get a life Stormy.
Is Alameda on fire, too?
Obvi you and yours are all nice local folks. Some of us are so disadvantaged as to have loved ones who live out of your neighborhood. It’s difficult having to care about what happens the big ol’ world outside.
Thanks Kym for reporting on this. I drive To 1-5 many times thru the 20! Preciate u keeping us Informed!
I ALWAYS wonder why the same people on here complain and complain, not pic, not happy even read this site!!! Go somewhere else and be negative!
I wonder why people complain about people complaining.
I wonder why you do, too. Troll much?
Great info to help with travel plans. Thanks Kym!
fire now 3000 acres , 0 containment as of 4:30 pm
smoke shifted more toward the east away from most of clearlake city and im no longer getting ash fallout
hate the winds though , not bad most the time then a gust or 3 blows things pretty good
More than that. 7700 acres. The Pawnee Fire. http://www.fire.ca.gov/current_incidents/incidentdetails/Index/2080
Theres a 3000 acre fire by Pawnee Creek along 36 and a second, smaller fire just west of Red Bluff.
Always appreciate a locals comment, especially during emergencies.
Thanks clear lake fool. As always – thanks Kym.
Good luck Lake County, from Trinity Co.
