67-Year-Old Driver Trapped for Over an Hour With Major Injuries in Early Morning Wreck off 101 Yesterday
On June 21, 2018, at approximately 0115 hours, Mr. Arthur Tolboe was driving a 1995 Freightliner with trailer northbound on US-101 north of milepost-marker…11.50 (near Trees of Mystery). For reasons still under investigation, the 1995 Freightliner traveled across the northbound lane and down the west embankment of US-101 where it struck a tree and rolled onto the driver side.
The driver, Mr. Tolboe [age 67], was trapped in the cab for over an hour while emergency personnel attempted to extricate him from the vehicle. Mr. Tolboe was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital with major injuries.
One way traffic control was utilized on scene with minimal delays to traffic at the time of the collision and extrication of the driver.
Initial information provided from the driver indicated the trailer was fully loaded with refrigerated perishable goods weighing over 35,000 lbs which would require the offloading of the goods prior to the recovery of the trailer. Arrangements were made to offload the perishable goods; however, upon contacting Pacific Seafood Company, it was determined the goods had been delivered, making the vehicle recoverable by the tow company.
One way traffic control was utilized at the scene of the collision until the Freightliner and trailer could be recovered. The roadway was opened two-way traffic at 1550 hours. [3:50 p.m.]
